afford it since I'll picking up my new MINI on Monday. It was a 94 model pretending to be a 67. Red with a white top just like my CR/W I'm picking up. Near perfect shape with only 21,000 miles. I'm outta bucks or I'd have brought it home.
Incredibly neat little car..........Know how I can come up with another $9,000 bucks without doing something illegal?

yeah those little buggers are sure fun

however not worth the 9K at all

best way, wait a little bit, and the prices will come down
they are worth no more than about 2K at best (dont flame its my opinion)

patience is a virtue, you will soon have an original parked next to your new beauty

ryan...
i've got a question about the late model cooper's...
i love how they look just like the 60's ones, are they any more reliable?
i think i could live with a "new" vintage cooper..i'm not a purist i guess!
also are they harder to come by or easier?

well mechanically you could say they are more reliable..since they are circa 91/92 cars

hmm i would say they are easier to come by if u got the hookups

i import cars from japan...as a side deal so i got some hookups now if u need

i would recommend getting the originals, as the mechanicals are SO simple on these cars, eve your grandma can handle it (well maybe not UR g'ma..haha jk )

let me know if u have any other questions..and if u want to buy..hmm..i. got 3 coming in dec

I think theres some classic minis worth more then 2K...what about one the 25 last built Mini cooper S's from John Cooper garage? I'm sure thats worth a pretty penny, or pound

The original Mini I drove today was, I believe, pretty unusal. It's a 94 model that snuck into the US from Canada after having it's title massaged to make it a 67. It currently has an antique license plate. I took some digital pictures of it but don't know how to post them to the board. When can I go to learn how to post a picture here?

As for the value of this original Mini, I have no doubt but that the owner will get 9K for it.

I think in the Test forum there's a thread that explains how and you can test there to see if you got it down.
Basically if the pics are already on the internet somewhere it's a snap - just get the address of the pic by right-clicking on it and selecting "properties", copy the URL, come back here, click on URL button and paste.

If they're not on the 'net aleady, upload them to the GALLERY here and then do the above.

If you think the average enthusiast can buy a classic mini in good usuable condition for $2K, I've got some swa...., erm, prime land for you to buy here in FL! It may happen, but we'll both be a lot older.

Right now there are more fixer-upper Minis in the US than ever before and Mini prices have been depressed for the past 9 months or more. Cars are coming from NZ, Australia, UK. If you add in costs of shipping ($1,200) from the UK to JAX to the costs of a decent car (1,500-2,000 GBP) you're already at $4K. Add some profit for the importer & you're nearer $5K. Buy a $2K car here and you'll have $6K in it before its presentable & reliable and $10K before its restored. I know, I've imported my own cars for a few years, have had Minis back to 1970 and know several importer from the UK.

Cars from the UK are generally rusty somewhere. Minis have rust issues, even (especially) those built in the 90's as there are sections that never get painted during assembly. Minis from OZ & NZ generally are solid shells but have been run hard & put away wet. Remember they're basic transportation there and cheap as chips. Disposable. Search discussion threads at http://www.minimania.com (classic)

BTW, any Mini that is a 1979 or newer is ILLEGAL in the US. If you wish to buy it, go ahead. Its your money. Customs does have the right to confiscate & crush the car as well as fine the importer. You assume the risk with the car.

minimad..very valid points

if you read what i originally posted, i said i thought they were "worth" 2K

for some people a 2003 mcs is worth 27K, others it is only worth 22K

and i understand your illegality notions, but come to los angeles on a summer day, and you will see about 150-200 rhd japanese cars imported illegally. as sad as that may be, its true.

red, I wholeheartedly agree that Minis are not worth that kind of dosh. I'd never spend it for one. I get my in for $3k-$4K. Solid, daily drivers, low miles.

someone's always going to stretch it until the feds finally have had enough. Then they'll crack down for a while.

eventually, a smart lawyer will have a party injured by a car that is illegal. do you think the insurance company will stand behind them at that point? they'll be left high & dry.

and, no thanks, you can keep LA.

Although classic Minis are truly delightful when they're working properly, don't forget those old bumper stickers...

Because they have Lucas refrigerators!!!

I drove an old Mini today.

Actually - I had this car a couple years befor I bought my MCS. Everyone who has a new Mini ought to at least drive one of the old ones for comparison. Mine is old, tinny and loud on the inside (much like riding in a coke can) - but the handling is FANTASTIC and it makes me smile more and longer than the MCS does.

"If you have the means..." - a new Mini and and its older brother look very cool in the garage together.

If i had the means red, I'd want an EG or EK CTR, or a nice DC5R or a new CTR, that would be so nice.
