Seat belt reminder?

Anyone know if there is a way to stop the seat belt reminder noise? I know its dangerous, but I never wear my seat belts and that noise seems to never stop. Any ideas?

Go to a junk yard and buy the male piece, plug it in and it thinks your seat belt is fastened. Though you really should wear it (ok, Dad mode off).

Well, just to get it out of the way, that's stupid.

But if you never wear it, just order an extra buckle and leave it in the receiver on your side. You can plug the passenger into the driver's side too, but that's a pain when you have passengers (we do that when we drive on the dyno).

What if you buckle the seat belt under you?

Cheaper than the hospital bill, or your insurance premium when they discover you don't buckle up. Or the ticket.

Sorry. I'm called Mom'sMini for a reason, I guess.

Hey, some people still smoke, too. (Of course buckling up is a lot easier than breaking a nicotine addiction, so I have a lot less sympathy for those who don't buckle up).

I'm probably on the extreme side, though, since I won't drive if any of the passengers aren't buckled up: I don't want them flying around inside my car if we have an accident (so hard to clean afterwards).

I quit smoking and you bet that was tough. I on the other hand would like to sometime be able to take the seat belt off, like when I am in the middle of Kansas westbound on Hwy 70 in the middle of nowhere!

I guess I just don't like BIG GOVERNMENT mandating that I must wear them always.

Yes, seat belts save lives, and so do guns!

::smirk:: i'm not sure I buy this... I have to put 3 or 4 grocery bags on there to get it to start chirping at me... Methinks you are hiding behind your laptop...

All kidding aside, i have noticed that it all depends where on the seat your stuff is sitting. If it slides more toward the back, the chime always goes on.

All things being equal, everyone should just wear it. Why not, really?

I completely agree with you. Not wearing your seat belt doesn't harm anyone else. Govmn't should stay the heck outa the nanny business. Insurance companies should mandate it with HUGE rate increases for those that survive crashes with their seat belts off. feel lucky?

Dont get me wrong, I do wear my seat belt now with my mini. Funny thing is, I do it because that noise level chime drives me nuts. But the kicker is this, I have been in several bad accidents with other vehicles of mine in the past. Not once did I have a seat belt on. Now I lied like a fat cat when the cop asked. But I did not have it on. So its not a must. Also what about back in the day when cars did not have seat belts. What if I have a classic car? They gonna force me to install seat belts in those? My mini is really the only car i get into every time now and buckle up. Go figure.

I wish I had run into this more civilized early-November version of you, but I guess all that seat belt bonging will make anyone crotchety.

That is the biggest BS comment I have read on this forum.. The chances of you loosing control are over 50% higher when you are not wearing your seat belt because your body is not held into the control position. You loose control and you endanger other drivers. This also increases the insurance costs of people like me because the insurance companies need to dish out tons of money because of the accidents you cause.
Think about the long run effect it has before you blabber off nonsense.

I started wearing seat belts when I got a 76 Dodge van. I felt like I was on the business end of a catapult when driving that vehicle. When AZ made it a law to wear seat belts, I did not like the government stepping into my business and stopped wearing them for a whole two days out of protest...until I realized how dumb I was being. Forget the government issues and the stories of seat beltless injury free accidents. They are the best life saving and injury preventing inventions ever made for cars. And yes, I was saved by wearing them once.

I would like to see a report that says that you run a 50% higher chance of loosing control if your not wearing your seat belt....I will agree on the saftey and insurence part...but dont think that statement is true.

If you've ever survived an accident without wearing a seat belt, you know why they are worn. You bounce around in the car, trying to grab anything to stabilize you...in short, you are no longer in control of the car.

I was in a transportation specific job for over 11 years and had to do research for a class. I will search for it again but give me a little time

Groceries and a gallon of milk sets the thing off for me. Guess what? I started putting it all in the boot! I think that is what it might be for!

And I am still in the "just wear the darn thing" for the people part of the discussion. Government sticks its nose into things when too many people are being stupid, generally.

You pull the fuse you'll lose your airbag. Same thing applies if you cut the wire near the female end of the seatbelt.
