I was wondering why other people prefered MCO to Mini2 or other like websites.

I prefer MCO because it's strictly North American. MINI2 seems to be based more on the European market than the NA market, so I feel a bit left out.

I also like the layout of the forums much better than MINI2's. I hope the new software doesn't mimic the layout of the MINI2 site.

Roadfly is a complete mess.

What do you think?

The email notification on MINI2 is a plus, it makes it easier to track the threads you have posted in.

hmm i hope this thread doesnt become a place for hatred about mini2

as that is a great site

i think both sites have their + and - 's

and i will leave it at that

justgo4it--most websites/forums have email notification, and i believe when mark updates the site (hes busy working on it)..we will have a site that is on the platforms with other sites and have much more features  be patient

also having a thread like this is like coming to mco and saying, "well is a focus or mini better" , kinda defeats the purpose imo

MCO rocks!

I too feel the content on MINI2 is very European-centric and the market as well as the cars are quite different. The forum layout here is much easier to navigate, and being more North American oriented things make 'more sense' to me.

i have been using mco for over a year. i like the easy format the nice people and the comraudery that has developed over this last year. i find the really nice info and the b.s. is easy to work around and the info is quick. best of all there is lots of stuff always to look at and the site is very educational to many that are not car people but would like to know more about the mc and not have to listen to a salesperson. thanks for comming back online missed you when you went down. thought you were a goner from the bmw crowd.

Red03minis,

I don't want this to be a place to bash MINI2 either. It is a very good site. I just like MCO better. When I can't find something I'm looking for on MCO, I can usually find the answer by searching on MINI2. Especially that great thread they have going about the CVT, which is what my MINI will be when it arrives here in October.

I really just want to know why people prefer one to the other.

I, on the contrary, feel that the "Global" perspective provided by the participation of MINI owners from all over the world, add a significant dimension of wealth of information to the site. I do not understand the "left out" feelings experienced by some because MINI2 is not strictly "North American" in content. I totally disagree with this view. The MINI, first and foremost, is a global car, we live in a global economy and technological advances like the internet puts the world at our fingertips.

Paul Mullett has done a terrific job in maintaining and keeping the proper flow of information in MINI2. His site is older than MCO and very well established in the MINI enthusiast world.

MINI2 has got beaten MCO in one area: The Technical and Fault and Fixes forums. If you ever want to engage in interesting tech conversation or find about the latest info regarding issues about your car, then again, MINI2 is it.

MCO has improved greatly as of late. MCO's strenght lies in the "camaderie" of ots members and the sense of "family".

There are jerks in both forums as well as very nice posters. Neither site is free from bad apples.

There are lots and lots of US/Canada posters in MINI2. Also, aside from the position of the steering wheel, how radically different are Euro market MINIs from ours????

Unless you are taking the MINI ONE nad MINI ONE D models not sold here. I find conversations about these models very interesting and informative.

I often wonder why us "Gringos" think we are so full of ourselves that the perspective from elsewhere in the world is irrelevant to us. Let's get over ourselves, please!.

Roadfly is OK, but the nature of its message boards are to cyclical and often it is diffcult to backtrack or find old messages or specific information.

I personally find MINI2 to be well organized. Cluttered? where?

Cooper4us,

I appreciate your comments about MINI2 and I believe I've read some of your posts in the CVT thread.

Again, I am in no way trying to bash MINI2.

It's just from an aesthetic viewpoint, I like MCO better. Plus, it's nice to be able to localize North American enthusiusts like MCO can. I know MINI2 has NA forums, but it is a largely a European site. You can get great info from there, but to me it feels a bit separate, being so European.

And I love Europe. I visited last year and want to try and make it back next year.

I didnt mean cluttered as in unorganized...I mean it looked cluttered as in there are too many little thingys to click and too much too look at where MCO is nice and simple looking and doesnt give me a headache

Since we drive an European car, that happens to me conceived and manufactured in Europe, following the "pulse" of what happens there seems to be crucial in our enjoyment and understanding of what the MINI is all about. I agree that MCO's NA perspective is also very important and allows to make good networking among owners in our own backyard, but by the very nature of what the MINI is and its origins/history, the European perspective, simply, can not be dismissed completely.

Okay, I should have named this thread "Compare MCO to MINI2" (Can I change that?). I know they are both great sites, but I'd like to know why folks prefer one to the other.

I prefer MCO because I feel more "at home" and the layout. I go to MINI2 to find the answers MCO can't give me.

Both sites are great and have thier virtues and defects. I would encourage everyone to frequent both to gain an all around flow of valuable MINI related info.

OK, I know this sounds picky, but for me, it's true. I like both sites, a lot. But MINI 2--for me at least--is easier to read. Something about having a 12pt font instead of an 8pt font makes it easier to read for these newly bi-focaled eyes. This may sound silly, but trust me--get to 40 or so, and you'll be grateful.

I'd be grateful if there were a way to personalize MCO's settings... and if there is a way, if someone could let me know.

I prefer the vbulletin software that is used on MINI2 its much easier to use and has a lot more functions and allowes for e-mail notification which i really like. Generally both site is filled with great info and friendly people, although, I never had any arguments with anyone on MINI2.com I did have a slight annoyance with someone on MCO which didnt exactlly take in consideration of others point of view. and that was when I first joined.. so i didnt have a positive view with MCO at first but now I its all good!

Short Answer is that I like both equally well. MINI2 is different, not better or worse.

Nobody has mentioned the feature that MINI2's vbulletin software has that is the most important to me: a "Go to first unread post" link that actually works. I find that feature invaluable since it makes it easy to skip what you've already read.

MCO has the link but it has never worked correctly. I hope the new software will be different.

That said, I enjoy and appreciate both sites and their respective personalities.
