R50/53 Mini Oxford Plant
Hi, MCO friends !
I got several questions about Mini's manufacturing plant in UK...
Have anyone visited Mini's oxford plant in UK ?
Do they have any general plant tour program on site ?
Could you tell me how far from London and how to get to the oxford plant?
Why am I asking these ?
Well, I may have time to visit Mini plant while I'm in UK on business next week....
I would appreciate your help in advance!

Oxford is about 2 hours away drive from central London. Very nice and charming University town. I was there in 2001 but at the time I wasn't even aware that my future favorite car was going to be built there, so I never saw or visited the plant.
The MINI2 link has all the info you need.

If you are doing business in London and have time I agree a jaunt up to Oxford (or over to Cambridge) might be worth it regardless. London is a cool international city, but to taste (or drink) the real England it is nice to get time outside London.
I assume you've watched the car being built on the MINIUSA site. It sure does make a visit to the plant look like a great time. Enjoy the Land of the MINI!

Sadly I had asked about plant tours in april and got nothing from MCO or MINI2.com
In July I was in London and Scotland and could have gone but didn't since there was no info.
I'm glad something is clearly set up for tours now and would like to see those who do go
let us know how it went.
I did hear some time back that due to the roll out of the new 2004 model that the tours were going to be stopped or scaled back from normal. Anything more on that? Maybe this month only?
I think a tour would be neat. Even without pictures.

that is discussed in the link i posted on the second post of this thread
I just toured the palnt last week while I was in England on vacation. It is well worth it. Here are some of the answers to your questions...
Search MINI2.com for information on setting up a tour.
No photos in the plant.
Yes they are scaling back the tours, it is so that they can shut down the "body in white" plant to add the robots necessary to build the cabrio. It is not due to 04's. While were were there that was all that they were building.
My wife and I took the train from Paddington station in London to Oxford. From there is was a 10 pound taxi ride to the plant. Once you have arranged a plant tour they send you all of the information you need.
The Tour is ~3 hours long
