Urgent help needed

Hi - I'm looking at getting a set of 4 Pirelli 240 Snow Sport Runflat Tires mounted on 2005 Mini Cooper S factory 17" Aluminum Wheels. Tire size 205 45R17

I have a R56 Mini Cooper S.

As these are 2nd hand and from an older MCS - will I have any issues with the TPMS sensors from these older tires when putting them on my new MCS 08?

How can I tell if the winter tires I'm looking at buying actually have the TPMS sensors?

they don't. R53s had wheel speed sensors that were used for tpm. R56s use sensors within the tire that are part of the valve stem. You need to get another set of sensors for the new tires.

Thanks Astro for the quick response - I had a feeling the sensors were different but wanted confirmation from someone.

How much would a set of sensors set me back? I'm in Canada

I'm thinking $200 for a set?

Canadian-spec MINIs have a passive system, that is based on relative wheel spin/speed.

Now my next question is (and I can't seem to get a straight answer from other posts) is will a set of R53 17inch (8 spoke rims) OEM fit on my R56 without any issues?

I've heard that the lug bolts at 12mm on the R53 and on the R56 they are 14mm? Does this create a big problem for me?

Need to know ASAP as I'm about to go look at buying a 2nd hand set of the above R56 today! :(

Thanks

They'll fit with no problems.

Even though the lug bolt diameter changed from 12mm to 14mm in mid-2006, the bolt holes in the OEM MINI wheels have always been ~16mm, both before and after the lug bolt changeover, so there's no problem using the older wheels with the newer lug bolts.

Yep I've got a Canadian spec MCS 2008. So does that mean if I were to buy tires and rims from Tirerack.com I wouldn't need to click the box to add sensors for $200?

I always thought I needed to have sensors on my MCS 2008? Have you done this yourself with your Canadian spec-MCS?

Thanks
