R50/53 Anyone know if any of the 04 changes were implement on late
Also, what about the production date for the windshield stress cracking fix? I asked the "ASKMINI" tolll free number phone person and they said, "Oh, that was fixed on the 02 models". From what I've read here I don't think so.
i am not entirely sure what you are asking, as i am a bit confused by it
however, in september of every year, bmw model changes over to 04 model
so this september 04's have been rolling out
mini2 already have pics of people tkaing delivery of such cars
and i have a 03 mcs with no windshield problem

This is good question... I have an August build '03 with a very small rock chip about 3 inches up from the bottom of the windshield right smack in the center. If I get a stress crack we all know I will be screwed...

In Sept. the official 04's began being produced. Some of the changes as I understand it are:
1. Digital speed readout on onboard computer.
2. DC outlet in the boot.
3. I just heard better cupholders.
4. Improved seatback material.
5. Stronger area around windshield to help prevent cracking.
I'm sure there are others also. My question is; were they all dumped into the 04's or were some phased into the late 03 models?

All cars delivered to the dealers from September to April will have the new MiniFini cup holder. This is a test market to see what the reaction is. If it goes well, they will continue the program. Also...they are working on some kind of redesign of the cupholders...when we'll see it is anybodies guess.
>>Small thing, but I saw a MINI the other day with a vent in the rear shelf (behind the rear seat.) Anyway, my January-built '03 doesn't have this. When was this introduced?
Cooper-S has some sort of grill thingy on the boot cover, the Cooper doesn't have it.

I just got an email from my MINI dealer. Among many things it mentioned that they have the new cupholders and that they cost $35. Is that for the older models or does everyone get to pay $35 for their cupholders? I thought that they came with the '04 MINI.

The cupholder will be in the car when you pick it up.

I thought I read that some of the 2004 changes would be in cars built beginning in December 2003. As it stands, my car may have the 2-spoke leather multifunction sport steering wheel, or it may have the new 3-spoke wheel (you can see it at bridger.us/mini)
on structural, electrical, and other non-content features get updated and/or retrofitted at their leisure, not according to the model year. Stuff like the boot power outlet is back for MY04, which started Sept. 1st.
---> jds, the rear parcel shelf vent is just on Cooper S's, and was implimented mid-03 model year. Anyway, the vent is there to increase the exhaust note amplitude inside the cabin, that's it.
Cheers,
Ryan

bmw always puts their sept 03..as 04s..and if all 04s get the changes..that means sept built cars will get the changes
as far as i understnad

As I understand it...the non-sport wheel is being discontinued as of Dec production. The old sport wheel will then be the standard, and the new three spoke design will be the upgrade.
