Wheels got jacked!!

So this is how my morning went a week ago...

We got a 5am call from the animal hospital, basically telling us we had to go there and put our cat down.

We go outside to drive to the animal hospital and see this:

...I moved to this new place like 3 weeks ago from less than a mile away, and so far someone [teenager!] backed their stupid spare-tire lugging SUV into me, and now this!

Not that my Konig Rewinds are [were] expensive wheels, and one of them was very very badly scratched up from an off-track incident last year. I'm guessing they were more after the 80% new RT-615s that were on there. I can only hope that whoever stole my wheels pushes the tires beyond the limit & results in a karmic spinout incurring massive financial crisis for their theiving little tuccasses.

*Note to self and everyone else... think twice about moving anywhere near a high school.

That sucks! Sorry to hear about that.
It looks like they took the time to put the lug bolts back on, or did you do that?

Insurance is covering the smaller half... after my $500 deduct is used up...

I know .. d'OH about the locks... Had 'em... switched to the stud conversion & totally kept forgetting to pick up locking or splined lugnuts. I have some now ! (I just have to remember to install them this time!)

I had always heard that MINIs had tilt sensors that would set off the alarm if someone tried this sort of thing.

That sucks. I don't think I'd even bother with insurance if it's going to cost the $500 deductible. Do you have HomeOwners insurance or Renters insurance? That might be better to use.

Sorry for what happened to your MINI, and for your loss as well. Talk about bad timing......

1) You can get a cheap computer program works with your computer's desk top camera that begins recording when motion is detected within its field of view, it puts the recording onto your hard drive. There are many adjustments for sensativity and length of record ect. Cheap too. Just not very good for night stuff out windows unless there are street lights nearby. But there are adjustments for light/ and low lux ect....

2) Check with local PD. Usually when these things happen, more than one vehicle is victim to this in the area.

3) If your gut tells you the HS may be a factor, cruise the lots you may get lucky. If it's a Technical school - does it have it's own Auto Shop ?

4) Lug locks are ok, but work only for the real novice thieves.....Experienced thieves either have a pocket full of keys for the lugs in advance, or just use a mallet and easy out lock to remove it. Takes only a few soft hits for them to get a bite in there and the lock lugs just twist right out......

5) the blocks or what ever is under the MINI are evidence, and should be treated as such. What ever they are, they can be matched up to other similar items possibly in the suspects vehicle/ yard / garage if/when located...and at the very least can be fumed for prints at a later time if a suspect is located....

6) Paging type auto alarm may be in order.........OR - We are having a litter of English Bulldogs next month.... here's pictures of the sire and dam. The sire is Imported from Russia, and has a BH International title in Schutshund.....I took him with me on the last MINI Rally on the Cape...

Dam is AKC as well, and is very sweet, she like's men, but is very tough.

Not sure how many we will have in litter yet, but they will only go to good homes........

Good luck with your MINI and your next friend, kitten or pup

That bites.

Very sorry to hear about your cat. At my house that would be worse than losing my wheels.

I am very sorry for your loss and want to remind you that you will see your friend at Rainbow Bridge..

As for the tires... at least they didn't take their jacks with them! It could have been so much worse, though their timing is just... amazingly bad.

Also, regarding what the other poster said about the school... if you do drive by the school's parking lot and happen to find your wheels on a vehicle on their lot... go in and talk to the principal.

Actually yes... having to go put the cat down was really rough, whereas the missing wheels is just annoying & frustrating... It sucked to even have this happen in the midst of our kitty's last day.

FYI HO or Renters insurance will not cover parts of cars that are installed on running vehicles. They will cover spare parts. For example you have a set of spare wheels in the garage and they get stolen. Those would be covered by HO or renters.

A long time ago I paid for a drag race engine that burned up in a fire!!

Ric

P.S. this advice only applies in Virginia since that is the only place I am licensed!

So sorry about your kitty. Wheels are things, and things can be replaced. (yes, it would massively **** me off as well, on top of the heartache.)
