Looks like I have to let her go

Well, with all the stuff in the market recently it looks like I should play it safe and pass on the Mini. This sucks as I was very much looking forward to having a new daily driver that was fun and efficient. I thought about financing it instead of paying cash but since there were credit issues 5 years ago looks like I can't get a loan. At least I know I have a fully refundable deposit.

Sucky thing is that its so close. Currently on a boat with an ETA in CA of the 1st. Figure it'd be here sometime mid-late November.

I'm thinking the smart thing to do is talk to the dealer about passing on this one and then waiting a few months to see if things straighten out and re-order the exact same car for delivery in '09. Of course then I start thinking I may as well wait for an '10 MY car so that I don't immediately get a depreciation hit

The car was:
Lightning Blue w/Black roof (no stripes)
Leather Punch Carbon Black
Anthracite headliner
Conv Package
Cold Weather Pkg
Premium Pkg
LSD
Chrome line interior
dark grey color line
piano black interior surface
xenon headlights
rear fogs
hi-fi sound system

$29.7 MSRP + dealer required pkg of floormats and 'detail'. only ~$200 though so not horrible.

It should be in around mid-Fed though so if anyone in the Pac NW is looking for one similar then I'll put you in touch with the dealer. no money for me at all, just feel bad for backing out on the order.

Sendro,
Kudos to you for making a tough decision. If you are still in need of a fun, fuel efficient car there is no embarrassment in looking for a used MINI. Contrary to popular belief, one could most probably be sourced for 50% of the new MSRP. The thrill of the hunt is half the fun...

Sorry to hear that.... I had to refuse mine too, tho for other reasons. If anyone wants the one I ordered it's waiting to be adopted (DC area, contact me for details). The dealership has been very understanding and I would definitely recommend them.

MCS
PW/PW
Premium
Cloth seats
Piano Black dash
Anthracite headliner
Navigation
Hi-Fi
16" Bridge-spokes w/all-seasons
Rear fog

MSRP $26,950

Good luck in your search or wait....!

In the current economy, it makes sense for a lot of people to hold off on any large purchase. Unfortunately, it will get ugly for the auto industry.

On the plus side to waiting, the mid-cycle refresh is expected for MY '10. Hopefully MINI will do something about the center console.

yup, I'll be back for one later though. I'm not quite in need of an economical car. it'd be nice, but I can't complain about having a Boxster S for a daily driver. Even if it is nearly 9 years and had over 70k miles old it's still solid and a bunch of fun. And, honestly, the mini would have been either a 4th car or a 3rd one (if I could bring myself to sell one of the current ones). Its definitely a want and not a need. Would have been an awesome car and I really liked the specs on it. But I can always get one later on when things settle.

Just wanted to support your decision. Very wise and shows a lot of character to defer the purchase. In this climate, it makes a lot of sense to hold on to cash.

I'm still hoping for the best, but things are very uncertain out there and it appears it may get worse before it gets better.

It sounds like you have some other toys to pass the time.

I'm sure you'll pick one up as soon as things start to settle down. It's a great car and worth the wait.

Actually, when I saw your thread title I thought you might have been forced to choose between your MINI and your wife -- and were coming to the only rational decision...

(LOL) That would be when you are really trying to economize and do some serious cost cutting.

Divorces can cost millions (depends on what you started with).
Funerals only set you back a few grand.

Just sayin', is all.

Sorry to hear your not getting your Mini but, it sounds like your making the right decision for you. You can get your Mini anytime down the road. Maybe it was junt meant to be. Probably work out for you better later on. Hang in there
