Sport stripes DIY

Hi Guys,
Has anybody ordered the sport stripe and put it onthe car yourself? I am planning to do just that but have a few questions.

1. Does it come pre-cut in the emblem and hoodscoop area, front and back?
2. If it doesn't, how do you cut it so that it looks good?

I will probably use the wet method. If it seems to be too hard with the cutting and measuring, I will probably do the regular bonnet stripes.

The main reason for this is that I was quoted $150 and $250 to have the bonnet and sport stripes installed. Day light robbery to me!

I paid $360 for install of stripes, but that included front/rear bumpers, bonnet, scoop, roof, boot, and boot handle. I provided the stripes. You can get those from Classic MINI. If you do what I did adding striping to the bumpers, scoop, boot handle, etc, then you need to get a roof stripe kit in the boot/bonnet color so you have the material for it.

i'm planning to stripe mine as well but i don't plan on paying to have them put on. its pretty simple with the wet application. the only thing is determining the center of the car and making sure the stripes are aligned properly. you don't need to cut until the stripe is on, then simply trim off the overhang. leave enough to wrap it around the edges. you can either spaced them enough to clear the emblem or trim around the emblem once they're on.

i was looking at ebay to buy some the stripes. they appear to be in the ~$60 range for the set I'm looking at which includes four 60" stripes 10" wide (9" stripe, .5" space, .5" stripe) Its cheap compared to mightystripes and aesthetic creations.

5 3/8" each spaced 1 1/4" apart. These are the OEM MINI sport stripes.

I paid $60 to have bonnet and boot striped (I provided the stripes). This was done in conjunction with clear bra and sunroof tinting. So any tint shop should be able to install it for you for much cheaper than dealer.

One thing to note, if you are installing it yourself, make sure to remove scoop so that you can wrapp about 1/4" of the stripes around the edge (and the boot). This will look much better as the stripe will appear continuous even if viewed up close.

the idea i got from somebody else on this board for determining the centerline of the car is to tie a long string around the antenna, then tape it to the middle of the emblem. then measure off of each side to determine the edge of the stripes by using grease pencil or maybe blue painter's tape. i haven't tried it yet as i'm still determining what stripes to get.
