Welcome to NAM!

As far as the sun roof goes, it really is a matter of personal preference. I don't have one for a couple reasons. I autocross, and a sunroof adds 55 pounds of weight to the top of the car. I'm very tall, and the mechanisms and framework for the sunroof protrude into the car reducing the headroom for the driver. I would have very little head room for normal driving, and none at all for a helmet during autocross days. Plus, it's just another thing in my opinion, to break or leak.

And I'm sure that there are thousands of other who love their sunroof, for their own reasons.

I have a MGB if I need fully natural climate control!

In hot sun it heats up cabin even more, even with roof screen
60lbs in the worst possible spot...the roof (highest point)
2 MCS with no sunroof.

I have the sun roof and while its nice and it was a requirement in every other car I've had, I could probably live without it. I don't track my car so the weight isn't an issue, but on the highway even with it in the tilt position its nearly too loud to have up and still have the stereo at a reasonable level. Beyond that, once I'm over 40-45 MPH, I need to close it if in the fully open position as again its too loud. And it gets hot - but now that its fall I imagine I'll learn to really enjoy it but its really a preference thing.

I love mine. It really brightens up the cabin. Im only 27, so I still like rolling down the windows, opening the roof, and listening to music way too loud.

I've driven cars with quieter sunroofs, but for me its kinda hard to live without. If anything, from a design standpoint, I think white roofs look weird with sunroofs. I have an Indie Blue on Indie Blue, so it blends in more. Black roofs would be best IMO.

howsoonisnow1985, how tall are you?! I'm 6'1'', and have plenty of headroom. You know your seat goes up and down, right?

I'm 5'10 not 3'9, I think its gromit801 that your referring too. I do not own a MINI with sunroof. Although, I test drove an MCS with sunroof to test the brakes, in LA, and even though it had the white vented vinyl shade sticker on top it was still too sunny bright and hot on my face. Also, I sat in passenger side in a MCS at a track day, it had fixed seats (no adjustibility) and the sunroof bulge rubbed the top of my (big cranium) helmet.
My first MCS, I was looking for a used one the criteria was
1) no sunroof
2) 6 speed
3) BRG w/White top
4) Zero Options (except for sport ok)

I could not find one without sunroof after nearly a year, so finally went in to order one, and found a customer trading their MINI in, MCS of my dreams and bought it the next day. The 2nd MINI had the same criteria (add JCW kit) and expanded search to a MC40 and GP cause I knew they did not have sunroof, and eventually found a GP.

I'm extremely happy with mine, the sun visor seems to keep out just enough direct sunlight while keeping the cabin bright. That's one of the reaons why I like my mini so much, big windows and lots of natural light. AND, of course it drives like a big go-cart. Zoom-Zoom!

It was a must have option for me in my recent search for a used 05 mini.

Best of luck.

Yeah i live in Tucson and i really dont like the sunroof very much. Does someone make a replacement for the screen that actually blocks the sun? Something without holes.

Thats funny, I just seen this post recently: https://www.northamericanmotoring.co...apped+MINI%27s And first thing that came to mind was driving a panoramic roof MCS (with redbox pads) , but how bad that MINI could have used this stuff of the sunroof in white. And then this post I thought about that Pano roof MINI again.

Holy crap... you are tall... I like how you refer to yourself in the 3rd person, especially being so big. Do you also say, "Gromit hungry... Gromit tired..."? Just kidding

Seriously, the adjustable seats give you soooo much more headroom. Even at 6'1'', I can adjust it to I have almost a foot above my head. My wife's like 5'2'', so its great to have the adjustment.

I love the sunroof... I didn't buy a cabrio because mounting ski or surfboard racks on the softtop isn't an option so I went with the next best thing, the sunroof. With it and the windows open, it almost feels like a cabrio. I like the extra light in the cabin - even with it closed. Thumbs up for the sunroof!

I keep my sunroof blocked with shades virtually year round. I get plenty of ventilation by cracking the windows and I really dislike how the glass heats up the car and gets the sun in my eyes.

I love my sunroof. I only run mt AC if it's hot and raining, and a few times over the course of a year to make sure it still works. Drives friends nuts when it's 40 or 50 degrees and I have the windows down sunroof open and the heat on.

I have a sunroof on my MCS and I'm not terribly fond of it. I had Limo tint installed on it, which has helped a lot with the heat, but it's still considerably warmer in my car than in my wife's Cooper. The only time I ever drive with it open is right around dusk, when the sun's pretty low on the horizon, and then only on surface streets.

Also, I didn't realize it added that much weight. My next MINI will definitely not have a sunroof.

I love my sunroof and sunroofs in general. It makes the car seem more open and roomier. I love to have the roof open on a nice day or night. I have a spoiler in front of the roof and that minimizes the noise.

I put a perforated graphic (british flag) on my sunroof and it shades the roof about as much as the internal shade, so with both on a sunny day you can block a too hot sun.

To each his own.

I like the sunroof. i really like the way it looks, but it does get hot in the cabin, especially the seats. i recently tinted the sunroof with 20%. i think it is a must for the sunroof. it has helped considerably.

My seat is all the way back, and the seat back is adjusted so I drive with a fairly straight arm approach to the steering wheel. An autox friend with a Mini with a sunroof, let me try to drive his one day. With my helmet on, I had no head room, and couldn't get the seat anywhere near comfortable.
