Glove Box Air Conditioning?

Its a little cool today and I have the heat going, reached into the glove box and noticed everything was cold, so I turned off the A/C compressor by pressing the button with the snowflake (I have the automatic temp control system) and continued to drive around for about an half hour or so then I check the glove box again and it had warmed up. I know the glove box is cooled by the A/C system but did not expect it if I have the heat on...If this is true then the A/C compressor may be running every time the system is in automatic climate control, except for probably when the ambient temp sensor reports a temp too cold for the system to run............looks like I may have found another way to save some more fuel........turn off the snow fake!

What do you guys think........am I crazy.............

No not crazy.

Normal, Compressor circulates the R134a Keeping the A/C seals from drying out, and helps to eliminate moisture and the formation of fog on inside of windshield....should be mention of it somewhere in the OM I think ?

You can close off the vent in glove box by turning it too.

I will endeavor to make sure the system is off when heat is all that is required, don't want the additional parasitic load or additional fuel consumption that comes along with it. Thanks for the feedback.

We've found a cool glove box to be very handy for a couple bottle of water, AND keeping the iPod cool while it's in it's dock playing and charging. iPods do get warm when charging.

The defogger also needs the AC on to eliminated the moisture in the car.

During the summer, I have honestly not noticed any difference in my gas mileage when the AC is on all the time.

Didn't know you could turn it off by twisting the vent. It gets cold in there!!

I'll bet the computer is above the glove box. Just like every BMW I have owned. Probably likes it cool!
