Now that they're here, any differences between '08 and '09?

Hi everyone,

I'll be getting my first MCS in a few weeks and I've been reading these forums quite a bit in the interim. Lots of great info and people here.

Just out of curiosity, has anyone who has seen both '08s and '09s noticed any differences between the two that weren't previously discussed?

Thanks,
Nick

The DSC or DTC thingy is standard now.
Oops... that's been discussed.

The 09's have the JCW speedo that goes to 160 MPH. New for 09. Also if you have an Automatic it doesn't come from Japan anymore it comes from Europe (I think France).

And of course the tailpipes have been shortened, but I believe that was done on some of the later 2008 MCS models, too.

The spoiler isnt standard on the 09 S? I was looking through the Build it on the Mini site and they have the spoiler listed as an option. When I ordered my car I mentioned this to my salesperson and she told me it does come with a spoiler but the one listed is a different one than stock. Can anyone confirm this info so I can change my order before its to late?

Mine came standard with the spoiler... At least I know I didn't pick it as option and I didn't pay extra for it

The MA was right. There's a super custom spoiler you can get but a "normal" one is standard.

A spoiler is standard.

As far as other differences, let me borrow your 08 MCS for a week and I'll let you know! (Just don't ask to borrow my 09... that's a deal breaker!)

yeah, that spoiler has been around for about 3 years. I saw it on a Mini on the freeway and it looked pretty cool, yet I only saw it for a few seconds. I'd like to see some photos of it on a Mini, -it's pretty cool.

Also as far as i know I ordered a mechanical LSD on mine. If it is not mechanical than I wasted $500. I will see in a few weeks.

The Prince engine is French, a joint effort between PooJoe and BMW, not the autotranny.

The 2009s retain the Aisin Steptronic, according to my service advisor. why would they change? it's bulletproof dependable, and altho Aisin is Japanese in origin, Aisin World Co. makes and distributes transmission products all over the world.

I was just chatting with the dealership in RI. They said you can now get the wheel arches painted from the factory. Anyone else heard this?

I didn't see it discussed here but there is another thread talking about no jack/tools included on the '09 MCS.

I thought previous MCS's had no jack because of the run-flats.

There is a mechanical LSD. If you got the sport package for the December on I think that comes with the super duper traction control which uses electronics instead of a real LSD. If you ordered one with the $500 LSD you will get a real mechanical LSD.

The 08 MCS w/ runflats should come with a jack. If you didn't get one you were likely ripped off.

The 09 has a Smartphone Integration option. I ordered it, but don't get to pick up Bronwyn until tomorrow so I can't give you any details on this new feature.

When I went to pick up my 2009 MCSa a week ago today, I noticed that there was no jack or chock or tire iron in the fitted styrofoam case under the trunk (boot) floor. The sales rep said that all those are removed at the dealership when the cars arrive (they got 17 that weekend) in order to prep the cars and that they had failed to replace them. She went and got all that stuff while I waited.

I didn't get the feeling that there was any attempt to shortchange me, just an oversight. I do have the run-flat tires, but if I change them out I need to have the tools.

Indeed the aero kit. It was offered in the last week, maybe two, of the 08's and the '09s. Ordered it on my AB/AB. VERY happy with that decision.
