Where to buy TPMS Sensors?

Anybody know where I can buy some TPMS sensors w/stems besides Tire Rack that isn't going to charge your an arm & a leg??

They're on back order at Tire Rack until 10/20 and I don't want to look at my wheels sitting in my garage for a month, nor do I want to take the originals off of my factory wheels...

Thanks!

I have looked as well. In terms of price, I find that Tirerack seems to be the best. I think OEM Mini is around 3 times more.

I bought mine from fastmini.net a few month ago. I paid $250.00 for all four with stems, etc. HOWEVER, they seem to have raised their prices and are now in the $360+ range. Dont know why the $100+ price increase....

Me too! There was 2 on B/O for two weeks but they shipped today. It's the best price I could find and apparently they work as OEM...

i have a new set unused because tirerack said i needed them when i ordered wheels and my car did not need them (indirect TPMS)

If you want we can work out a price. The only problem is I'm in Australia though, and not sure about shipping costs.

I guess that all the units they received were already sold, that would explain the 10/20 delay.

Nevermind, I was able to get them...

But I'd still like to know if there is another alternative to Tire Rack in the event that they are on "back-order"...

Good for you! You can ignore my PM then...

Did you get the same deal? By the way, I had not ordered them before yesterday.

I paid $207.99/shipped...

Does anybody know how the new sensors communicate with the onboard CPU?? Do I have to take it to a Mini dealership to have it re-programmed back to the vehicle??

Or do I just reset the TPMS and it will automatically sync??

Just reset the TPMS. everything will sync when you reset the system. No dealer trip necessary. If that doesn't work, then they sent you TPMS sensors with the wrong frequency

Look for an article on TPMS in the upcoming Issue 4 of the NAM Alliance Magazine. Pictures and diagrams of fitment and what to be looking for in a wheel included. Will be published probably the late in the week of Oct 20th

'03 has the Flat Tire Monitor FTM system where the computer analyses the rotation of each tire via the ABS (brake) sensors. Any tire that has lost (or gained) pressure will not rotate at the same rate as the other tires. The computer will compare the tire rotation and let you know that one or more tires need attention. It does not tell you which tire(s) need air. There are no special sensors in the wheels.

The TPMS or TPM system on later models is different. There are sensors in the valve stem of each wheel that send a radio signal to a receiver / computer. I believe it actually sends pressure information to the OBC but when I had a slow leak on my '10 the system did not tell me which tire was low.

Note this is all found in the owners manual. You can download PDF for your model and search info in seconds.

Thanks

..for the information klricks; I am purchasing a set of OEM rims and tires from a 2007 MC which had TPMS and the sensors are not sold with the set. I am placing them on my 2003 MC. Do I need to buy TPMS sensors for those tires/rims or some sort of FTM valve sensors or regular valve stems?

The FTM does not have in-tire sensors. FTM use the ABS/DSC sensors to detect rotational speed. The US government mandated TPM (TPMS) did not get put in until late '07 for the '08 model year.
