Did my brakes, noticed brake fluid under car

I replaced all 4 rotors and pads today and moved the car to go do the bed in process. When I got back I noticed a fluid on the ground and it is brake fluid. Popped the hood and looked at the reservoir and its completely full. I thought I remember looking at it a while ago and it was not as full as it is now. So question is... When pushing the pistons back in does it push brake fluid back up into the reservoir. How did it get out of the reservoir? Hopefully it did not bust a seal or anything...

Thanks,
K

Pushing the piston back into the caliper will push fluid back to the resevoir. It will only fill up the resevoir and if too full go over the edge. You did have the cap off for this? Did you have any problems with the bedding in process and pedal feel?

No, I did not have the cap off... Thats my concern... Yes, I now know the cap should have been off and I should have removed some fluid. Is there pressure valve on the resevoir to allow excess out? Not sure how it escaped since I did not have the lid off like I should have...

The bedding in process seemed to go just fine. Pedal feel seems normal. I have not really pushed the brakes hard so its tuff to tell if the pedal is 100% normal. I can go out and do some hard stops and feel the pedal some more under harder braking....

was the cap loose when you did the job? If so it may have leaked some then. You can mess up the gasket on the cap and if you take a flash light and look behind the fire wall where the master is bolted on you can see if there's any fluid there. Sounds like you are OK, but watch it for a few days.

Sounds like I am lucky I hope. On closer looks like all the fluid must have come from the cap. It must have not been really tight and seeped through the cap gasket. My fluid is above the max line. Should i remove a little so its right at or below the max line? All the other lines and inlets into the master cylinder look dry.

Thanks,
k

Guys, tight or loose the mc cap is vented. It has to be or you'd have a vacuum in the system as a whole. If you did not remove the cap and the reservoir is now full (like really full) then you simply forced additional fluid out the small hole in the top of the cap. Suck out some of the extra with a turkey baster, rinse the whole area with WATER and blow it all dry.

I am really glad to hear this. Thanks for chiming in Todd. I did the 2nd round of bedding after cool down per Carbotechs directions and the brakes feel really solid. Thanks Dustin for the great product! I have an autox the end of this month and can't wait.
