Hit a raccoon :(

Hi all,

a raccoon jumped yesterday night into my car. I got 2 warning lights after the hit. The first is malfunction of my left fog light and the washer fluid ran out.
I don't see thing on my car itself. Since the shop is closed till Monday, i wanted to see if anybody knows how the 2 things can be correlated ??

Thanks

Have you considered that they might not be connected?

Washer fluid is used over time. It does not take the shop to refill it.

Check to see if the light is broken and see if your washer fluid reservoir is empty. If the light is broken replace it and if the the reservoir is empty add water. The raccoon must have owned stock in the stock market...

What a dumb animal. He sacrificed himself to bring the whole Raccoon community IQ up! That is what you call looking on the bright side.

Consider yourself lucky...I hit a Raccoon in a 99 Corvette once, and the car was in the body shop for 3 weeks getting a cracked nose replaced. :-(

i thought you ran out of washing fluid because you were trying to spray the racoon blood off your windshield and headlights...

I came upon a Skunk in the middle of the road while doing about 60mph. I had just dimmed the brights for on oncomming car. He was hidden behind his bushy tail so when I finally saw him he was about 20ft in front of me. This was my first evasive manuver in the Mini. I swerved right and he went left. Whew or Phew I was lucky! The amazing thing was the Mini followed the steering wheel jerk exactly, no lag whatsoever for such a fast input.

Just like the new Clubman commercial:

Maybe the raccoon wanted to go outin style!

Heavens am I dense..........I thought the "racoon jumped into the car" -- literally. Could just picture him sharing the driving!

I did not run out of water because i used it :P After i stopped i was staying in a lake of washer fluid, so it must leaked out. I saw that the water tank is behind the left fog light. So i guess the when the raccoon jumped into my left bumper he broke something!!

Looks like you answered your own question... After hitting the fog light, some how the raccoon also punctured your washer fluid reservoir.

If it happened that the raccoon fell on your car from out of a tree above, it would probably be covered by your Comprehensive coverage, rather than Collision.

I mention this because a Comp. claim usually has a lower deductible, and won't increase your future insurance rates...

My Mini also had a run-in with a raccoon. We were going 65 MPH, he hit the left side of the grill under the bumper. The furry beast took out the radiator, AC compressor, aux water pump and a fog light. All covered by my non-collision (comprehensive) insurance. Two weeks in the shop and $3200+ of damage.

I think we have a conspiracy going on. Look our for the furry beasts.
