New Tires

I need some help
I have a 2007 MC with the 16" Dunlap runflats. I need new tires but really don't want to put run flats back on the mini. What do you guys recommend?

thanks in advance

My favorites are Goodyear Eagle F1 (GS-D3). They work a whole lot better than stock runflats and are quieter and more comfortable. The only thing they don't do well is treadwear, they're quite soft (so they grip really good) and wear out pretty quickly. They're also much cheaper than runflats.

They don't make them in the weird stock size, so you have to upsize, I use 205/50s on the 16" wheels.

Tirerack is a good place to check prices. They list them for $73 each, I pay about a bit more for them from the local dealer.

BF Goodrich G-Force Sports, about $84 (205/45-16) from Discount Tire dot com. ZR-rated, sticky, smooth, quiet, but not much good under about 20 degrees F. They are, after all, sport/summer tires.

If you are not going to run the factory run flats, will you be buying a spare tire to put into the tire well?

Does the MCS actually have an accessible tire well for a spare? My 2009 should be here in about 3-4 weeks.

Browser 23 There is no tire well for a MCS because of the middle exhaust.

A number of us already have non RFTs on the MCS. We have slime and a compressor as well as AAA. I will be getting dynaplugs which is recommended as well. Many cars, such as the Porsche do not have a spare tire or run flats so it is done.

The basic question is what do you want to do with the replacement tires. Is it mainly for street use including winter etc. Do you want different sets for winter or summer instead of the compromise all season tires. Now is the time you can really change things around.

Forgot to mention, I think on an MC you may already have a spare. I would keep it even if it was a Run Flat. If you do not have a spare, it is your choice to get one or not. I would if I had the space.

No spare in MC, they come w/RF tires from the factory, at least mine does.

Did they stop giving spares if you get runflats? I have MC also with runflats May 07 build but I got a spare. If you didn't get a spare you could probably still get one and mount it underneath.

You see... we MINI Cooper S owners are absolutely incapable of having a spare tire due to the exhaust pipes going down the center of the underbody... right where the MINI Cooper has the spare tire.

It is why the MINI Cooper S comes standard with Run-Flats.

Mine also came with a spare, MC March 07 build. Did they stop coming with spares when they made the updates in August 07?

Also I forgot, like sequence says the Eagle F1s are summer only, they're not supposed to work so well when it gets cold. I don't know personally, its never got that cold here.
