shrick camshaft

I've done a search on shrick cams and all I can find is feedback for the S model. Does anyone have the shrick cam or a comparable cam for the justacooper? If so, what are your thoughts on it? Can it be used with a daily driver? Does it lose too much low end to be a solid modification for the street? Any thoughts or opinions will be noted and appreciated! Thanks Guys and Gals!

Towards the bottom, Jan mentions his soon-to-be-released R50 cams.

I'm down for that! $400 for the cam seems like a great price. How easy is this to install yourself? I would think since the motor is OHC that a cam install would be pretty straight forward!

I have seen a how to on how to do a cam swap, and it does look pretty straight forward. I am a hairs width away from getting the rmw cam and header myself when they come out. Id do the header myself no problem, but the cam i would probably get some assistance if/when I install it.

i've been posting on that thread... and i am loosing my hope to get one of that cams soon...

I would prefer to spend 400$ on a RMW that on a Schrick... but it's taking forever for that cam to go on the market!..

Don't take me wrong... but it's really been sometime...

I hope it doesn't take more than 2 weeks... or else.. Schrick on the way

Jan has a lot on his plate and has R50 headers in the works as well, not to mention everything else he does. I say the wait will be worth it.

I've got the Shrick cam in the head that Dr. Mike @ TSW worked over for me by hand... It's my opinion that a cam without a properly ported head is likely to be underwhelming. It'll be interesting to see what RMW comes up with as a complete system.

I installed the Shrick cam at the same time I installed our 'very' modified head (with porting that's similar, at least by feel from a well calibrated hand, to the porting on RMW's "Jesus" head - ours was done quite some time before it was out, though). All I can say is that above 4K RPM, the power is QUITE impressive. Without a ported head, I'd assume you might get 6-7 hp and it's likely that all will come above 4K... With a ported head, I can only guess at the gain but it's impressive to say the least.

The next time Jan's in town, we're getting the Cooper tuned (I think it's right before our LSC BMWCCA track weekend, so it'll be nice to have a proper tune on a track with some VERY long straights). I'm really looking forward to what Jan's able to do with the car. Of course, I'll post dyno plots. Needless to say, there's no WAY a Midlands can stand up to the power we're making right now - we'd been through 2 of them prior to swapping for the Getrag 6-speed. Now, I have no worries... The gearing on the later Getrag is very complimentary to our Cooper's power. Several people that have driven it are quite shocked at the way it pulls.

Once the R50 header is out, I'll likely swap out my current header (Milltek), too.

So, any news on the RMW cams for R50? Or on the header, for that matter (although I already have a custom header so I don't think I'll be changing it)?

Mini Mania has a "race" cam with a slightly longer duration than the shrick. If I recall, it was cheaper too.

Yeah but that might be raising the powerband too much in the rpms. I'd prefer a RMW one which on the S has given good results with keeping the low/mid end torque, if Jan could achieve something similar for our coopers that would be great.

Well, if the RMW on my S is any indication, the car will no longer be an economy car.

My average mpg went down from 30 to 21.
