Speedo reads 5-15mph STOPPED!

I should have posted this here.

Just wondering if anyone else is having this problem. Of course my Mini is now out of warranty. About 2 months ago I noticed that while driving the speedo was reading faster than I thought I was going. That's when I noticed that completely at random, my speedo will read 5-15 mph when stopped. If it's at 10mph when stopped, that becomes the next "0" until I stop again at which time it might go to 0 or anywhere else between 0-15 mph. Whatever amount it's off by at dead stop remains constant until the next stop. Pulling off and turning the car off for a bit and restarting doesn't rest it either. It can happen all day for a week and then be perfectly fine for days. It can also happen on and off all day. All other gauges seem to be fine.

Anyone else have this problem?

Thanks,
Ron B.

I had this problem with the Tachometer. I believe the dials are calibrated every time you start the car. So, if the needle gets stuck this becomes the new zero next time the car is started.

Replacing the Tachometer fixed it. Luckily I was still under warranty.

From: Camano Island, WA, but wish was still Oahu, Hawaii
They are replacing mine this saturday. Seems that it only does it when parked outside when hot out, so when I had dropped it off, and it sat inside their shop, it would not do it. I picked it up, drove it to work where it sat in parking lot till I was done with work, and it did it again...Luckily it was still reading hi by the time I got back to them, but I really hate wasting time!
