Alternative DIY CAI for R56 MCS..

Ok, I've seen many DIY cold air intakes that slap on a better filter and remove the airbox. I understand the idea is that air from the hoodscoop will get more cool air to the turbo. But...

Has anyone tried taking the inlet hose by the driver's side headlight and moving that directly behind the grill or somehow exposing that to better airflow?

My thinking is that; 1. this would really push cold air into the filter(not hot air from under the hood) and 2. leave the airscoop open to help cool the turbo and engine.

Any thoughts?

Would it be any different than the m7 functional hood scoop mods that direct air directly into an opening on the top of the air filter box?

I guess the point I was bringing up is it may just be better to work with what we have. (more functional, less just trying to get more engine noise)

i guess you can keep adding silicone piping after the MAF... but finding space for a filter?

this is from hattat from post 145 of the DYI CAI thread.

perhaps you can continue the piping even after the filter and route it to where you want it

I'm talking about the stock intake hose (the one that initially lets the air in near the driver's side headlight) and shifting it a few inches toward the center to expose it to the air coming through the front grille.

I noticed on my MCS on the upper grille the slots closest to the intake pipe are blocked off, 2 rows of them. I thought of opening them up like I did on the hood scoop to allow more air through closer to the stock intake pipe opening.

I have done my own version of the CAI using a large pod filter and a opened up hood scoop but I have found this mod ingests a lot of water in heavy rain. So much that I had water collect in the low point of the induction pipe after the IC. I really don't think this water will get into the engine in large quantities due to the rise of the pipe after the IC but I am not so sure I want to take the risk. The good thing it is so easy to change intakes that I can change it for rainy weather.

We've been thinking about this too while not creating issues with the MAF. It's a bit different than your idea, but in the same track.

We'll be a NAM vendor as soon as someone from Internet Brands returns my e-mails.

Ok! Question and I'm sure this has been asked somewhere? The smaller hose on the intake leading to the cam-chaft! Can this be deleted? I had an Audi TT and was able to delete this and run to the ground or to the oil catch can? Is this the same idea?
I would like to delete that hose and shoot straight to CAI Filter! Anyone?

Obviously no one in this thread, including NjMCS has noticed the DoS intake....

Melangell,

Do you have the V1 or V2 intake? I've been considering both since the cost isn't much different.

V1. If I could get Clint (Mr. DoS) to give me trade in value, I'd upgrade!
