'08 MCS Wheel Fitment Question

Sorry if this has been answered before, I searched but couldn't find anything. I just ordered an '08 MCS, and am looking for a set of track wheels/tires for it. Will this OE style of wheel, which is a 16x6.5, which I believe was stock on the previous gen MCS, fit on an '08? What is this style of wheel commonly referred to as, so I can find out their weight? The set I'm looking at buying used are from an '05 I believe, are there any other issues I need to be aware of with using these on my car? I don't need the TPMS to work, as they'll be track wheels. I just want to know if I'd need a spacer, different lugnuts, etc. Keep in mind I'd be using these for auto-x and track events as well. Thanks for the help.

These are R84 (V-spoke or X-lite) wheels and weigh 17.6 lb. Although some people have fit them with 1st Gen JCW brakes (which are the same size as stock brakes on the R56 MCS), they were not MINI approved for this use, supposedly because of insufficient brake cooling.

So they probably would definetely not be approved for track use then. I might consider using them for winter wheels though. So there are no extra steps you have to take to mount them on a R56? Can you get the TPMS to work with these wheels for a R56?

'08 MCS Wheel Fitment Question

I can't answer about the TPMS fitments, for winter use, but as you say for autocross and the track it's not an issue.
They should bolt right up with stock lug bolts with no problems.

I would have to guess that with a spacer and longer bolts on the front axle you would get enough extra clearance for the cooling issues on the track. Again I'm guessing about that.

I don't know if spacers are legal for autocross as I don't but for the track it's not an issue.
You might try checking out the competition forums for more answers. Some owners have posted, with the R53 JCW brakes as well as the R56 MCS, that they are using the R-84 X Lites for autocross and seem to be pleased.

Because I don't have a dedicated set of track wheels I use the 16x6.5 inch R-94 Bridgespokes, approved for the JCW brakes, for my daily driving and for occasional track use and are happy with them with one BIG exception. They are heavy!

Hope this helps...
