What to Do?? 2008 or 2009 Cooper
Over a 2 week period: MA thought they had a 2008 build slot (Aug build/Sept delivery)...after deposit she was told by sales manager he rec'd bad info and they had early 2009 slots (Sept build/Oct delivery). Apparently they really do have a 2008 slot for me, but I don't know what to do. For the same price the 2008 choice would add the 10-speaker hi-fi, lose the DSC, and deliver 1 month earlier than the 2009...any thoughts?

"High mileage 09"? That doesn't make any sense! In the future, chances are that you'd be selling the car, whether it's a last run 08 or first run 09, at the same time so the mileage wouldn't be much different. They'd be just weeks apart in age. From what I can figure out from the past models, three years from now an 09 would be worth about $2000 more than an 08. A 20,000 mile 08 vs. a 35,000 08 only gets you about an extra 400 bucks.
If you want the Sport package, get the '08. If you plan to keep the car until the wheels fall off (i.e., not sell/trade-in until you have 80k+ miles on it), I'd also recommend the '08, because the resale price won't be that big a difference.
If you don't want the Sport package, and you only plan to keep the car for a relatively short time, go for the '09. As mentioned, it will have a higher resale value, and 4 weeks is not a long time. It will seem like a long time, but it really isn't.

I was in the same shoes as you. I went with the 09 model just because the Premium package had the multi fuctional steering wheel instead of the hi-fi sound, and the package was $1,250 cheaper, but the base price of the car is a little bit more on the 09 vs 08. I was also looking at the resale value seeing how i will probably sell the car in the future.
I'd definitely get the DSC. If you can get it on the 08 go for it, if not, I'd get the 09. You may think you don't need it, but you never know. It is a safety feature you hope you never need, but if it does kick in, it may be the most important $500 you ever spent.
If you will be driving in snow or winter conditions at all I would highly recommend DSC if not you can do without it.
2008 vs. 2009... I think it depends on your patience and what options/packages you want. As far as resale value down the road I don't think it will make much difference.

+1
Agreed, go with it.
I went with 08. Mine is the last week build i think.. week 32... Correct me if i am wrong. But I want to just drive my MCS sooner than later
Im impatient..but i think after 1-2 years... i dont think you will be thinking about 08 or 09.. i think you will be concerned about modding your cooper.. hehhe

Or, if you have a stick and live in an area with hills, then I'd definitely get DSC for its hill assist feature.
The resale value depends a lot more on the mileage than the year.
I'd go with the '09. It's a year "newer" for only a month more wait. DSC isn't something I'd want to lose, either, and it's required for '09's cars. You'd be ahead of the game as far as resale is concerned, not to mention that it might just save your bacon some day.
