Interior/Exterior Interior Cabin Filter to be or not to be...
Interior Cabin Filter to be or not to be...
Recently decided to replace my interior cabin filter... pulled out the old one to look at it after ordering a new one online... (holy cow that bad boy was gross)... anyway... now running without a filter while waiting for my replacement to arrive... and wow... running without a filter is like a million times more air !!! and living in Texas with all the heat down here... is REALLY REALLY nice when I put on the AC... so my question is this... anyone else running without the filter ??? would really appreciate any and all thoughts on this...
Over time, you might get dust accumulation inside the workings of the a/c and that could ruin efficiency. Also, any odd smells will be inside the system, and not contained in the replacable filter.
New filter will flow better.
Does the charcoal filter block more air than the standard? My AC has a hard time keeping up on those 90 degree days and I wonder if it's a plugged up charcoal filter. It's only a few months old, but I'm thinking the humidity can't help.
I ditched mine completely. I'm breathing "unfiltered air" whenever I have the windows down, walking outside, etc...
For those concerned about odors and problems with the system, what about the portion BEFORE the filter? Doesn't all the dirt and dust manage to pass through there just fine somehow before it's collected by the filter? I'd thus expect the dust to pass through the rest of the system aft of the filter nearly as well and just blow out the vents.
If it soothes your senses to have a cabin filter, and you're happy with it's function, then you should keep using one, though.

The dirt and muck that will be on the fins will decrease the cooling ability of the AC. This is the reason you want to use a filter in your home, to keep the condenser clean, even if you don't worry about air quality.
