That doesn't surprise me. Very low miles usually indicates the car has been sitting for long periods of time and/or is only driven in short trips. Both are really hard on the battery and they could call that neglect which wouldn't be covered under warranty. Fortunately batteries aren't that expensive and are easy to replace yourself.
The only reason I could see why they'd replace the battery would be if something else shorted out (like the seat heaters on my Passat) that eventually drained the battery before you could take the car in for service. In my case, it was all covered under warranty, including the new battery.

Don't go to the dealer to replace it! They probably want $200 for the battery and another $100 to install it (only takes a few minutes). If you have zero mechanical ability and don't wish to learn any, you can always take it to a Sears or any other shop that will install car batteries. Should cost half that with installation (less then $100 if you do it yourself). Just make sure they install a battery with a vent (if you have the MCS).
Remember, the OP said they have low miles and the dealer isn't covering it. It's not uncommon for a dealer to refuse warranty service for a battery on a car with low miles. If for example the car has been sitting for a long period of time and the battery is completely discharged, you've already severely shortened it's life. Do that at least 2 more times and it's now running at a fraction of it's original capacity.

In fact the Dealer should cover no mater what as it has a 4 year 50000 mile warranty.
It's just a dealers way of getting paid twice for the same job. They will get the customer to pay for it then put it in as a warranty repair and get paid by BMW/Mini.
They should be covering it under warranty Period.
thanks for all help again
