Prob too good to be true, but

I'm typically of the "if it seems too good to be true, it probably is" camp. That being said - if someone wants to lob a call in, feel free to send me a case or beer finder's fee if it works out...

This vehicle was for sale at the Coconut Creek, Florida Infiniti Dealer.
It might be time to play games with the clown that claims he has this one for sale.
Let me send him an email and ask where the vehicle is located.

__________________________________________________ ________________

OK here are the facts as we currently have them:
The vehicle is listed as being located in Carteret, NJ 07008
With a phone number of ***-872-5581
MCS Cabrio
VIN - WMWRH33546TL93630
Asking Price of: $12,500
Mileage: 16,292
The pictures are clearly from the Infiniti lot in Coconut Creek, Florida (I don't think they have palms in New Jersey).
I have email him asking for an appointment to see the MINI in person - lets see what excuse he makes for not allowing me to.
I have created an email address and alias of John Joseph with an email address at jayjay62@*****.net

Palm trees in NJ, eh? It's the typical scam. I report those weekly to AutoTrader.com, you may like do the same.

Email is fraudwatch@autotrader.com

Just send the link above with "scam spotted" in the subject line.

Or it went for a bath!!

Well, as for carfax, haven't looked at the report on my VIN for my VW, but the initial pull up of the VIN says there are "16" reports. I'm the only owner, and it's never been in an accident. A "report" can be anything from passing emissions testing to service intervals to usual things like reregistering or major things like accidents.

Well I got a response from him this morning now lets see what he has to say when I offer cash.

Below is the email he sent me:
__________________________________________________ ___________

Hi,

Thank you for your interest in my car. The car is still available so please
let me know if you are still interested in buying it! It has a clear title,
it is in an excellent condition, no dents or scratches, it was always
garaged and regular maintenance and oil changes were done in time. It hasn't
been involved in any accidents or flood damage. The engine runs very well. I
assume you already know the price but if you want more photos or a Carfax
report just let me know! I don't want to offend you but the car is priced
for a fast sale so please, if you intend to apply for a loan or financing,
do not reply.
Thanks,

Dennis

Tell him you're really interested to see it in person, but you also need a picture of him with the car holding a sign with your username on it just to make sure he's not wasting your time. See what kind of crappy photoshop he comes up with.

I think we are going to learn that this car is locked in a Nigerian bank vault and that the original owner was the Nigerian Director of MINIs but he died in a recent rebel coup d'etat and that all we need to do is send our MVA/DMV information to him so he can get personalized Nigerian license plates for us and arrange for the shipment of the vehicle to our home, but we also need to send him $30,000 (which will be deposited in an account in our name at the Nigerian Bank) and will be refunded to us once we prove we are sincere. No checks, stamps or coupons please.

I wonder if the NJ phone # is still valid.
My guess is that someone on AutoTrader spotted it and made him take it down.
I'm still waiting to hear about the palm trees growing in NJ phenom.
Keep us posted...I love watching scammers get busted..

Well apparently Mr. Dennis Waddell or whatever his real name is, still wants to play.
He just sent me another email and wait till you read this one, it is a classic scam type email.
I can't believe people fall for this kind of stuff.
His email is everything below this line.

Hello ,

The car is in Idaho, in a sealed container, ready to be shipped. Because my
work requires a lot of travelling, I made sure that the car is ready to be
shipped as soon as I find a buyer for it.I will not be able to meet you to
show you the car, but I am available for any information you may need. Feel
free to e-mail me, I check my inbox very often.
I want to tell you that I am not selling this car for profit or due to lack
of money. All I can say is that some recent events in my life made me change
my perception of certain things, things that I've considered important in
the past. I will donate all money to charity after I sell this car. I am
currently on a trip for UNICEF.
The transaction will be made through eBay company for the safety of both of
us. I've already included the car into eBay Vehicle Purchase Protection, so
I will sell it only through this program.
Here is how the process works:

- you give me your shipping address,
- I start a transaction on eBay Motors,
- they send you the payment instructions,
- you send the money into eBay trust account,
- they confirm me that they received the funds,
- I ship the car,
- you receive the car and approve them to pay me,
- they send me the money.
You'll receive the car papers along with the car.
They will hold the money until the car is delivered to you, with properly
executed title. You will have 5 business days for inspection. If the car is
not like described you will have to ship it back at the end of the 5
business days on my expense, but I am sure that you will love it.

In order to move forward I will need your full name and address.

eBay will get in touch with you with further details and instructions.
Looking forward to hearing from you!

I just sent him an email asking him why he pulled the ad off Autotrader.com .
I also told him that I will need a picture of the car to convince the wife that we should buy this car.
Now lets see if he can come up with another picture and if it will be the same car.

So lets see the facts as we have them so far:
  1. The MINI was parked at an Infiniti Dealer in South Florida.
  2. He lives in New Jersey.
  3. The MINI is in a locked container in Idaho.
  4. He wants cash only.

Tell him you have a friend within driving distance of anywhere in Idaho that would be happy to go to the storage container and take pictures of the car for you. All your friend needs is the necessary information to provide to the staff at the facility so that she can go take a look at the car.

btw, this looks nearly identical to that guy that showed us how to scam a scammer on NSXprime. Be careful or else he might catch on...

"I THINK THE WESTERN UNION TELLS YOU ALL IN HERE,,THAT YOU ARE PLAYING BAD...AND YOU ARE NOT SERIOUS AT ALL..."

*giggle*

Does anybody here know of anybody anywhere that has ever actually gotten stung by one of these kind of things? You would have to be an absolute idiot (who probably shouldn't even be allowed to drive) to fall for one of these kind of scams!
