I was preparing my very first post on this forum to ask for advice on options when ordering my '08 MC this Sat at my local dealership. While I was going back and forth to the Mini configurator to make sure I didn't forget to ask about any options I was considering, I noticed price changes and then realized it was building an '09......Guess it's back to the drawingboard.
Some changes I have noticed (and please forgive if incorrect as I am a noob)
- Price increase $500
- Premium PKG deletes hi-fi stereo and adds leather or wood MFSW. Price decrease to $1250 ($1500 w/wood MFSW)
- Sport PKG currently unavail. (Until Dec. production)
- Conv. PKG decrease to $1250
- Smartphone prep comfort USB $100 (new option)
- Sirius now $500 but no lifetime subscription
- DSC now standard

About a $750 base increase.
Sport Package isn't available until December production... Looks like it's because of DTC.
I ordered my '08 today (wOOt!) and it looks like the '09 is about $150 more with the same setup.

I have been "told" they have a spot for me in their '08 orders but I was on the fence about waiting for an '09. I have some thinking to do.
I went to see what you were saying about the Sport PKG not being avail until Dec. Am I reading it right the the sport suspension is no longer in the PKG? Might interest me as I did not want the stiffer ride but was getting the sport seats, fog lamps, stripes and rear spoiler.
Last thing I needed was more decisions but guess I am glad I have them.

I just priced out the same exact spec Mini that I just took delivery of this week, and the price came out the same. It appears that the prices haven't changed at all. All that has changed is that DSC is now standard and no longer optional. So they charge you the extra $500 for DSC, where as with the '08 model you could opt to save the $500 and not get DSC. There are also a couple of new options and the a couple of the packages have changed slightly.
DSC-DTC-EDLC
So the DSC is standard....thus the $500 inc. in base MSRP. The Dynamic Traction Control with new Electronic Differential Lock Control is avail 12/08 for $500 or included in the Sport Pkg (and this has an on/off switch).
The $250 price increase on the Convenience package sucks. (Yes, I said increase. Look again. They deleted the MFSW and arm rest. If you want what was in the old Convenience package it'll cost you $250.)
Personally, I'm pleased there was so little diff between 2008 and 2009 prices.
Would not have noticed this one as I was not conisdering that package. It is one of the options/packages that I have questions about. Wish I had saved my basic build on the website so I could do a more through comparison.
I saved my original build for my 08' MCSm
Old base - $21,200
New base - $21,950
Total build price change is +$750
Glad I ordered the 08', since I ordered the LSD in lieu of the DSC, since I don't like the behavior of the DSC when cornering hard. Yes you can turn it off, but it does NOT totally disable it.

Mine would have been exactly $1000 more for 2009 vs 2008. I'm glad I didn't wait, as I doubt I would make that up on used car values, especially considering low mileage 2008 vs high mileage 2009 in 3-4 years.
The only thing I wish I had from 2009 is the smartphone prep for $100 since it gives a direct USB link to all the music on my iPhone, instead of wacky MINI USB/Aux Y-Cable on 2008... but that's life.

Thanks for noticing.
So what? I don't think a $250 price difference now is going to add up to a significantly increased resale price eight or twelve years from now. The simple fact of being an '09 will have much more impact.
Particularly since this is probably going to price the convenience package out of what it's worth to me and I'll save some money by not getting it at all.
Your 2009 ordered now will likely be worth more at resale than a 2008 ordered last week.

saved money, and down the road they will be worth the same
Same here! But what can you do, i actually lucked out on everything else. I didnt pick any of the pkgs that have price increases.
yeah, same here. Without the color line interior, my price in the configurator remained unchanged. It could have been a lot worse I suppose, but I'm sure when I'm driving my new baby off the lot, I'll forget all about the yellow colorline.
My price stayed exactly the same, but includes sirius for one year at $500 instead of sirius lifetime at $1000. I also kept the more expensive conv. package in order to keep the 2009 car specs identical to my 2008 build specs. I'm sticking with my 2008 with lifetime sirius. IF I could order a car today with DTC then I might just consider bumping to the 2009.
Base Price Increase MCS $+750
DSC now standard $-500
Conv. Pack Increase $+250 (incl. armrest & MFSW)
Sirius w/ 1-year $-500

I'm almost ready to put in an order. I pulled up a saved model from the configurator this morning before I knew the '09s were out and a bug in the system still included the the sport package but for $10000. The first thing I saw was a total price in the low $30k range. It scared me for a second because with the dollar falling so much over the last year, I could have imagined an hefty price increase for the next year.
Mine is about $1,500 more for '09. I didn't order DSC on the '08; thus, better mine is already on order! The trick is they removed both the armrest and upgraded stereo from the packages - items I would have ordered anyways. Also, it is not the same Bluetooth setup and now costs more overall. There is about an overall price change of about 4-5% if you review very closely, but remember, the $ is getting a lot weaker vs. the British Pound. Therefore, it is still somewhat of a deal.
