R56 big bucks!
IS THE PRICE?
Is mini cooper s brand new to exspansive, for the very basic it is over $21,000 and is so plain. I have never ever even thought about the price because the car is just so AWSOME to me. But, once I added all my stuff my dad said thats crazy. so, i dont know. Is the gas better than normal cars. if i cant solve this than my dad said we are going to get a gay toyota echo or something and i wont even drive that... BUT mini is defientaly my dream car besides a dodge viper. i wish yall could help me get one. I would like to buy a used one i have no problem with it. I justhave no ideal on how to buy a car. Can you still take a loan from the bank when you buy a used car?
sorry if this was a waste of your time

I would take my MCS over a viper any day. My 07' has no options because that's the only way I could afford one, but really there are only three options I wish I had: MFSW, LSD and Xenons. Those would bring your non-metalic paint MCS to 23k. Even still I am happy to live without those options because I have my MINI. Good luck with it, but if you get landed in a Echo cause you got gready with options I'll bet you'll regret it.
Base model of S is still good. Now of course, you have tons of options to add at your finger tip. Best thing is to go to the dealer and see if you like those options. For me Xenon lights were a MUST. Everything else is personal preference but for barebone MCS, I would get Xenon. HIFI audio is a joke (at least to my ear), and I dont really care for IPOD connection the NAV.
For me, I do like the red interior/black combo for $1000 extra... leather for $2000 was too much i thought.
I plan to put aftermarket suspension and wheels so no options regarding those.
OH.. one more thing, Regular JustaCooper does get better MPG simply because it isnt turbo-charged.... either way, still a fun and unique car (a lot more than Corolla or Echo
)
Used Mini hold a great resale value. Only few thousand off compared to new ones. I ordered a new one because of this reason. You can find descent milage MCS 05-06 for low 20ks to mid 25ks. OF course higher milage MCS will put you under 20k range.

The mood lights? Or the Lights in the controls? Controls and gauges are orange. Mood lights are pink blue purple or orange your choice.
There is and 06' with 9k in the for sale forum right now for 20k

It releases extra extra 5 lbs of turbo boost. Im jk. Its the gear shifter... either you downshift or upshift... but it is unlike the SMG of M cars... still have a torque converter which technically classifies the car as automatic...
You should test drive one... manual is easy to learn... just practice...
+1 on learning manual, it's a lot more fun imo. but, of course it's your choice, don't let us bully you into something.
also, consider this. if the S is too expensive, and your alternative is an echo (ugh
) or something similar, then why not consider a regular cooper? it is still infinitely better than an echo, and a few grand cheaper than the S. not quite as fast, but when you compare it to what you will be in if you don't get the S, i would start looking at base coopers.
shoot for the s, fall back on the cooper.
do what you must, but please, please, please, PLEASE don't get an echo, or a civic, or an accord, or a jetta, or a golf (GTI maybe), or an eclipse (unless it's that all-wheel drive GSX from the 90s), i could go on, but just buy a mini.
if it really is too much, look at mazda 3s, they are supposed to have great handling (for what they are). i hear the 2.3 drinks gas though.

I have to second the remark on the non-S. While it doesn't have as MUCH get-up-and-go, it still handles the twisties just fine, which is what all the MINIs were made for.
40 mpg highway is nothing to laugh at, plus if you go new, you got 3 years / 36K free maintenance, and 4 years / 50K warranty.
Go see if you can test drive each (if your local dealer has any to test drive) and make up your own mind. Good luck!

You can get a loan on an used car (although interest rate tends to be slightly higher).
Gas is going to be better than normal cars -- premium
. Actually mileage in an "S" won't be better than in an echo (even a gay one) or something else like a Yaris. . . but it'll be better than in the viper.
BTW: did you mean to post in the cabrio section?

1.) Too expensive?
2.) Gas MPG compared to other vehicles?
3.) Loans?
OK -
1.) If you want to really impress your father, you ought to do some research and put the info together for your dad in a snapshot. "Build" or price three different cars with similiar features (MINI, a Toyota, and a Honda maybe -- I doubt a Viper would help your argument) so that your dad gets the idea you're being smart about comparison (even though MINI HAS no comparison!) I wouldn't necessarily go completely "plain," but don't get totally crazy with the factory options. All three of these suggested cars can be modded later. Next, figure out the depreciation values of each of them -- and oh-by-the-way, MINI only depreciates about $200 a YEAR (if even that much)....VERY few cars can say that. Add in Consumer Reports on each vehicle, as well as the safety ratings.
2.) MPG for the MINIs is really outstanding. But the MCS types DO take premium...you just don't fill up as often. There are a ton of threads on NAM that can help you figure out the "real" average gas milage. I suggest you add that to your "dad presentation" but remember to do it for each type of car.
3.) Unfortunately, loans are much more arbitrary. Used (or pre-owned) MINIS are hard to find (especially with everything you're looking for in options), and almost the same price as new ones. Used car loans - like eager2own said - are usually higher APR and/or shorter term than new car loans. And your eligibility for a loan (used or new) depends on your credit rating. Before you apply for a loan anywhere, talk to a bank and get background info on HOW loans work first -- ask TWO banks, so you don't get a one-sided story. Then research (either locally and face-to-face, or on the internet) to see who is offering the lowest APR w/the right term (24 months, 36 months, etc.) for you. If you're depending on dad for assistance, you can ask him about loans in general, and maybe him co-signing a loan for you...but not everybody is keen on that idea anymore.
Good luck!!
It sounds to me you'd have an easier time convincing on a regular cooper, and not an s. Are you getting the car to race? Or daily driver? Daily driver, best mpg (I see many plus 40s) and still fast, sporty, and fun would be justacooper.
I honestly say go for the s when you can afford it... work your way up.

"gay toyota echo"?
IMO, the first three things you should do:
- Stop insulting people you are seeking information from.
- Remove that word from your vocabulary until you understand how to use it.
- Work on your capitalization, grammar and spelling skills.

Alright so im thinking that this is going to be your first car?? Am i right, cuz ur dad is going to buy it??
Well since its ur first car why not go with the justacooper, its cheaper, gets better gas mileage, and its still a mini. If you want a MCS then save up for the price difference then your dad will really be impressed.
You are lucky that you have a dad that will pay for your car.

I don't really know if any further input is needed but I'll add my two cents since it was asked of us...
First, there are many many many better vehicles to purchase in reference to miles per gallon. In my real world driving my MCSa gets around 27/28 mpgs average, and that's hand tallied. The highest I have ever got was on a trip to the river (all freeway driving) of 36 mpgs. So if gas mielage is what you're going for, either get a justacooper or some other carboard box type car on wheels (such as a honda fit etc...)...
(p.s. I have SUCH a bad lead foot!....p.s.s. I'm getting that looked at by a doctor
)
Second, Explain to your dad the SAFETY ratings on MINIs! They are excellent in all aspects, and many people forget to consider the safety ratings in their furture car purchasing ideals. There are options to make your MINI even safer, also, which your dad may want to allow you to get (such as the rear fogs and front fogs..etc) It's a good way to convince him you'll "need" some of the options!
Third, .......actually, just beg and plead and maybe offer your dad your skills in yardwork, house cleaning, chauferring, or under water basket-weaving in hopes of securing a MINI next year!!!!!

You might have misunderstood the young man, what he might have meant was that you'll have a fun (gay) time in a Toyota.
