Clear or vinyl bra for track

i have my first track day coming up. it's at a new track (nj motorsports) so i'm not expecting a lot of rocks....like, say at pocono.....but i don't want any chips!

i think i could tackle a clear bra install....but i already have stripes and of course wax on. or do i go the vinyl route? easy on, easy off....just not sure how it would handle high speeds, and does it leave any small scratches?

i do about 3-4 autocross and 2 track days a year, very little highway use, and yes, it's my daily driver. any help with this decision would be appreciated

No vinyl for the track. Any bra designed for the road would likely not stay in place on the track. Also I don't think track officials would allow it on the track, it could fly off.

Clear 3M type would be better but you can always tape with painters tape just for the track. Not a great look but effective and a lot less expensive.

I've used a Colgan vinyl bra for the track on my M3. Trust me when I say they'll only fly off when pigs do. No one has ever raised an eyebrow about me using on at the track.

With that said, the one time I didn't have it on I hit a cone hard with my splitter. I don't know if Clear Bra would have helped there, but a vinyl one definitely would have.

I will get Clear Bra on my JCW. For the track I'll maybe tape the lights, but not worry about it much otherwise. I figure if I want to play hard, I can't keep my car show worthy perfect forever.

Clear bra is the best alternative for all around use......but installing it yourself is not an easy job, you will more than likely not be happy with the results and you will not have the installers warranty.

Good info. I agree a Colgan is really in a different category than most other auto bras.
I use a Colgan bra on my MINI but have never tried it on a track. I guess I never asked.

I would never use a vinyl bra for a track day. I wouldn't want that thing flapping around when I am at 100+mph buffing my hood.

They're now running the orange and blue Gulf colors. Very cool looking.

I really miss them racing in ALMS.

I'll see your BRG and raise you one Gulf.
(Aston-Martin Racing changed their livery this year when Gulf became a sponsor)

I run my car naked on track. Car not me....

Just curious, are you running a cabrio on track? I'm surprised they'd let you.

A cloth bra will flop around at those speeds.

Painters tape works well.

There is a brand that has a light green product, picked up a roll at Home Depot.

And the cabrio bit, some clubs will let them run but not in the more advanced groups.

True painters tape is a low tack tape, used by painters so it will be easy to remove, and leave little residue behind. Word of caution, do not leave even painters tape on for very long, as it will bake on in the sun. If that happens a few rock chips would be easier to deal with.

And you would know this how?

First hand knowledge holds much more water than hearsay.

Mark,

How long is too long? I'm looking to bring a new Clubman S back to Arizona from New York and am trying to decide if a Bra is sufficient or maybe painters tape UNDER the Colgan Bra? I'm scheduled to have clear bra installed once I get it back to AZ.

Thanks!
