No gas for you!!!

WTF?????
My husband's coworker just took delivery of his new '08 Clubman today, and they only gave him 1/2 a tank of gas......
When he asked about it, they said that's all they were allowed to give him....
Ah, any other new Mini owners have this happen to them?

Where did he get it, I see your sig says WC. I hope it was not Otto's. I should be getting my MCS in a week and I hope I get a full tank. I just sold my used car and I filled the tank before I sold it.

Thats rediculous! When you take delivery, just pull out a calculator and tell them "at the current price of premium, its ____ that is coming off the price" or just go pic out something from their motoring gear and say "this should cover it" hahaha

I would have threatened to cancel the deal if I didn't get a full tank. they would have given it then.
(its the principle) new car, full tank, it's an unwritten rule.
ide say your husbands co worker is also a pushover.

I know gas costs the dealerships money, too, but really... $50 for a tank out of the $3000+ they make on the deal goes a long way towards customer satisfaction.
Don't be a jerk about it, just ask nicely when they stopped including gas and inform them that you were expecting it, and as such, won't be giving them all 5's on the purchase survey unless your tank is full. THAT is worth $50 to them.

Yes, unfortunately, it was Otto's.
I agree with you all... if you can't afford to give a full tank of gas after I had just dropped 30+k, then I would have thrown a fit.

My husband just bought a Saturn Sky Redline, and his came with a full tank (must take 93octane even), and look at the mess GM is in right now and they afforded it!

I just never heard of such a thing and wanted to see if anyone else ran into that recently.

The co-worker should run it by his MA. Half tank ordered by whom? The dealership itself? Regional HQ? A dictate from BMW?

Price of premium is high, but still, a full tank goes a long way toward good customer relations. Such penny pinching is so short-sighted.

Though it does make me wonder, if you did fight about it, do you think they would fill the rest with regular 87? If they are that worried about price then they may not care about what they put in.

Also remember if it shows half way on the gauge, then it really is more like 1/3 you have...the top half takes forever to use while the last half flies by.

who says they spent the extra few $ on premium in the first place.

Heres something I found interesting.
I can't say this for mini. (it seems like they still get full MSRP)
but the other brands are taking huge hits. A very close friend of mine is a sales manager at a nissan dealership, while talking about the economy and new car sales, he told me that they "often" sell cars thousands less then what they actually pay for it.
they make up for the loss by having a higher volume on which the dealership gets bonus for.

When I went to pick up my '08 MCSa that had just arrived at the dealership my MA (Maria) took the car back for a quick prep (car washing) and when it was brought back to me I get inside and saw that the fuel was low and not a full tank.I told my other MA (Georgio) and the car was filled up with gas which probably was because the car wasn't fully prepped for sale yet.

All their MINIs at Vista MINI are sold with a full tank of gas but I am not sure of other dealerships though.

Definitely have the co-worker go to the MA or even the Sales Manager to get a full tank of gas.

Wow, if that happened to me, my feedback on the survey would not be "excellent". Toyota gave me a full tank of gas in my 08 Yaris and that was a $13K car! If you pay MSRP for a car, I'd expect a full tank of gas.

Not cool; but at least you would be able to fill the remaining half with 93 octane to offset the 87 they put in the first half.

I thought a tank of gas was covered under the dealer prep charge?

Not only did I get a full tank, because I took delivery when I did, I received a $400 GAS CARD from the dealership.

I just emailed my MA at Otto's today. He said the word sure travels fast on the internet. He said that due to the economy that the owner of Otto's has said that new BMW's and MINI's will only get a 3/4 tank of gas. I guess I really can't just walk away because of that because I would loose my 1000 dollar deposit to order. That would make me think twice if I was buying a car off the lot. I probably would have went to another dealer. The more I thought about it, it comes out to 3 gallons shy of a full tank. That is roughly 12 dollars. It is not going to kill me, but it should not hurt them either.

i swear that i would lose my f-ing mind. i mean i would cause a fit. ottos is right up the road from me. it is a mini dealership attached to a bmw one. i would flip out on the mini side and then flip out on the bmw side.

i guess the problem is that you don't want to cancel a car that you waited like 8 weeks for, but i can absolutely say that they would be more than content filling up the tank to get me out of there.

they can't have it both ways - the prices they're posting for used minis don't reflect the 'bad economy'

sorry to go off here, but this is something that would just tee me off...

Oh, I don't blame you all...
I now feel better... the last time we were at Ottos, our dog had to "use the bathroom" in the bushes
