Lazy man's wax?
Lazy man's wax?
I am a bit lazy...but I barely have time to wash dishes, let alone wash and wax my car. I love carnauba waxes because they last a while and look good, but I can't stand having to tape off my trim. Actually, I refuse to tape off my trim, because I suck at it and it takes me a long time to do it...plus I am a perfectionist, so I could spend an hour taping all of the trim on my car!
I know that hydro is supposed to be good for this. Just wash and spray it on, then dry. But what is the best long lasting wax that can either be applied to the trim, or that will not turn white on the trim? I am looking for something that will last about as long as a carnauba wax.
BTW, will black wow get rid of nasty spots and oxidation on the roof trim? Or should I remove it and sand and paint it a flat black?

Carnauba waxes actually don't last very long compared to the synthetic waxes that are now avaiable. Most on NAM tend to favor Prima products but there are plenty of good synthetic waxes available. Everyone will tell you that Prima Epic is pretty much as good as it gets! It lasts an easy 3-4 months depending on your climate, driving habits, and how well you maintain your car. It is a lazy mans wax in that respect. Just put a coat of hydro on the car every week or two and youll be set.
As for the BW, Im not sure about the roof trim. I wouldn't be surprised if it worked though. (I dont have a roof!)

I have ICE as well. ICE will make your car look amazing for about 4 days and then it loses its luster. The nice thing is that you can make your trim look great with it. ICE, however, is not a lazy man's wax AT ALL. You would practically have to ICE your car every wash or two to get the same effect as if you Epic'd the car. Not to mention Epic looks better...IMO.
I had good results with Ice also... swore by it before switching to Epic.
Ice is so easy, you can apply it monthly with almost no effort... and it looks good on the trim, too.
That said, given the currently available products, if I didn't want to make the effort for Epic, I would:
1) use Hydro after every wash (adds virtually no time or effort if you're gonna towel dry anyway,
and
2) use either Black Wow or Nero for the trim (BW=more work but lasts longer, Nero = easy but need to do it after each wash for best results).

Yeah I agree ^^^
A lot of people like to bash ICE but its acutally a very good product for the money, and it lasts FOREVER.

no one is bashing it...it does a lousy greasy job....might as well but baby all over it.... will do the same thing and wash off...
a) you got a bad batch - happens
b) your environmental conditions (temp, humidity) were a factor
c) if it wasn't compatible with whatever soap you're using
d) or some other explanation, other than just "Ice sucks"... because it hasn't sucked for everyone...
Interesting that your experience is so different than quite a few other folks here who have used the product. I wonder if

Bashing in my book just means throwing negative words around without backing them up. No harm no foul.
I love Zymol. It's even edible, not that I would do that, but it sure smells good. Their HD Cleanse smells like choocolate and does a great job, too. I haven't had the time to put on the Epic as I didn't want to wait the necessary time to wipe it off. Someday though I will try it. It's out there in the garage waiting for me.
Going back to the topic, lazing waxing. There are 2 ways to looks at this. One you use a high quality product, Zaino, Epic, NXT, Klasse, and the like, and you spend a long period of time working with it, but only once or twice a year, or you use a product that does not last as long, so you need to reapply more often, but takes far less work each time.
All you newbies to the detailing forum, you will find that most of us long time members tend to say we like one product over another, give the tangible, pros and cons, then move on. We tend to leave the bashing to the mod forums

I'm more concerned with the ease of application where the trim is concerned. When I have time to do this, it is because I planned the whole day for such an event. I have no problem with the work part of it since I usually clay the whole car and maybe polish everything as well. But taping everything off takes away a lot of time that could be used for cleaning the interior or working on my wheels... If it is a lot of work to get off, that's ok.
What I want is probably not available...I want something that can get all over the trim...maybe completely on the trim...that will last several months even if the car gets a bit filthy from time to time.
Something with cleansing properties would also be desirable since my car may weigh several pounds less after washing and claying...
Ice would definitely not be for me...I can't wash my car every week (i refuse to use a gas station car wash). Washing my car and using Ice every week would certainly strip me of my laziness title.
So...what I can gather so far...
epic can be applied to the trim and it will last more than 2 months?
Klasse twins lasts 8 months with no taping? Does it have to cure for a long time?
Ken...can the paint sealer get on the trim? How long does it last?
BTW, I live in Miami...so it is always humid...I don't think it safe for my paint if I have to wait more than 10 minutes from completely applying the wax to when I can start removing it...I am concerned about contaminates getting into the drying wax and scratching my paint (more than it is scratched already).

Just to throw in my two cents on the topic. I use a dry application of Hydro as my lazy man's wax. I apply Epic twice a year, and do a dry application of Hydro every 2 weeks to keep the Mini looking good. Since Hydro does not negatively effect trim or glass, it's ok to move quickly, and not worry about possible over spray. Plus, it looks great on roof decals.

Hydro is really the Lazy person's wax.
