rear wipers

My rear wipers are messed up - anyone else?
When I turn them on, the left one wipes twice then stops. The right one keeps wiping for about 30 seconds then stops half-way up the glass. When they're both on, they're out of sync.
Took it to the dealer monday, they said they re-set the computer or something but that didn't do anything. On the advise of MINI HQ they ordered a new motor, which, once it comes in, I have 60 days to get it back into them to fix . But essentially, they have no idea what the problem is...

I'm pretty sure someone posted about a similar problem on the faults and fixes... I know I've read comments about this before. Sorry this befell you...but what do you mean when you say they said you have "60 days" to get it back to them? That sounds odd since it's a faulty part - shouldn't you have a full warranty time window...not that you'd want to wait very long anyway?

Sounds suspicious to me too - something about since it's a special order, they're not allowed to keep it in stock or something?
Anywho, I'll be taking it in before the 60 days...

Oh puhleeeze. I guess they don't want to get stuck with an "extra" rear wiper motor...however, me thinks they'll probably need more within the next year or two.

Rightieo - of course you'd want to see out of your rear windows before too long!

That sounds like a cool feature to me. Maybe you can get them programmed to look like they're directing a symphony.

I don't mind that they're not in sync too much - it's the fact that one stops after two swipes and the other keeps going - washer on or off.

Not related to your post I'm afraid but something that had me belly-laughing the other day...

My wife's Mercedes has the new-ish column mounted shifter - it's like an indicator stalk and the detents are electronic not mechanical. Anyway - it's in exactly the same position as the wiper stalk on the Clubman.

The other day she took the MINI to run an errand and, as in love w/the Clubman as I am, I decided to admire it as she pulled out of the driveway. I'm a bit confused to see first the front wipers go from steady to full speed and then the rears from intermittent to ON. Basically she's driving away from the house in the blazing Florida sunshine w/every single wiper available running full blaze. She caps this off w/some squirts to the HID's and the back windows for good measure. Almost immediately I hear my cell-phone ringing upstairs but I refrain from running up just so I can enjoy the comedy a while longer . Needless to say she has had a full tutorial on the wiper on/off sequence now.

Hope your winsome wiper problem is resolved soon.

It's kind of like when I'm driving in my wifes 04 MC and I go to hit the clutch and the brake. There is no clutch since it's an automatic, so I have two feet slamming on the brake. My wife doesn't like it when I do that.

Got a good one too. First time wifey was off to work with the new Clubbie. We have two garages and the remotes are configured to open one or the other or both at the same time (The Mini was in the "other" garage which she'd never left from). After about 15 minutes she finally got the "Symphony of the Doors" figured out...but it was hilarious.

anyone know if there are replacement blades available out there for the rear wipers and what size are they? NON OEM!

Just replaced my front wipers and I can actually see now ... so I'd like to do the same with the rear.

don't know if this has happened to anyone yet, but one of my rear wipers always lifts off the back window a bit. the result is the top half being clean and on the way down to it's normal position, because it's off the glass a bit it just smears grim on the window instead of wiping it. when i park my car, i have to press it back down

I am unsure where you live but up here in New England that is a common problem with non-winter blades.

Water gets in between the moving parts of the wiper blade and freezes and causes it not to move freely.

The problem with the rear wipes though is compounded by the amount of grime that gets on them and can cause this problem with out ice of freezing weather.

The first morning Idrove my new Clubby 3 weeks ago, it was minus 15 degrees!!! When I went to turn on the rear wiper, one went a partial stroke and the other stayed put. I turned them off and on again, and they both moved, butout of sync... and got stuck mid stroke (and end of stroke) again. I gave up and drove on a while longer to let stuff warm up a little, then trioed again... eventually, by turning on, then off, then on then off, they finally both parked at the bottom of their stroke. Since then, they do work almost in perfect sync... one might wipe a 1/2 inch or so ahead of the other...

Anywho, I'll second the wiper blade issue, both front and rear - they just don't seem to want to hug the glass too well.

Cheers,
John D.

im in ontario, canada, so it could a mixture of cold weather and the grime that gets kicked up on the rear while driving, that messes with the rear wiper a bit, appreciate the feedback, cheers

I'm having similar issue with astroclub1. Both rear wipers work in sync but they only wipe the top half. Even though they complete the whole arc, it seems they are not touching the window for the bottom half of the arc. I tried pushing them down but no no avail. So whenever I squirt windshield washer fluid, the bottom half remains dirty/wet -.-

so far with me it has only been going on a couple times, and only when the back is covered in grime. i guess just generally, cleaning the rear wipers to insure no salt grime from winter has gotten into the moving blades and parts is the thing ive been trying to do. when the car is parked for the night, i just lob some water on the rear to get most of the fresh road salt and crap off till the next day.
