1)Is there anyway to get a S hood? Does a S hood fit on the Mini? Anyone here done it? Anyone know where to get one....besides the dealer?
2)I will be getting a Mini next year and will need to get a hitch & cargo carrier. I cant find anywhere that has hitches for the mini. Anyone know where to get em at? Anyone done this? Anyone have pics?
Sorry for all the questions....but thought it would be best to come here and ask the Mini "pros"
Thanks in advance!!! Mike & Crystal

Welcome to MCO mwenz33

If you follow the M7 thread for the new carbon fiber hood, you can probably get an S hood from someone who is swapping theirs out.

Good luck,
Kim

Good advise HARMINI. mwenz33, listen to that and try to get an entire hood. The S hood scoop will not fit in a Cooper, it has a completely different hood.
I personally think the Cooper hood looks better, it's slightly lower and more contoured, and don't understand why you'd want an S scoop on a Cooper, but hey, whatever floats your boat.

Search this site for keyword "hitch" and you'll find tons of info, even people who have custom made hitches for their MINI.

Seems like it'd cost about the same to just get an S in the first place?

Were arent getting an S because the wife doesnt like manual. She likes the hood and gas cap but not the stick. So if they make S autos we would be great....but they dont so we have to try and get the S look on our reg MC. Thanks for the info thus far. Cant talk to anyone about their hood because I dont have my MC yet.

If you look at the Minifini site http://www.minifini.com they have a hitch that will be available soon (fall 2003).
And they are selling though MINI dealerships, so you should be able to get one easily enough once they are available.

You could also just get a carbon fibre MCS bonnet to replace your MC bonnet with.

M&C-- Welcome to our world! Customizing already? Lots of that. Some, like me, took it stock and are enjoying a slower thought process. But if you know what you want, you will find a way. I have a MCS, but I thought long and hard about it because I liked the bonnet better on the MC. Different strokes... Anyway, welcome, you are among friends!

I do remember reading about somebody putting an S hood on a cooper. Try doing a search here and on roadfly.

I also prefer the look of the S hood. It's a little more rounded/higher in the front. To me it feels a bit more like the original Mini. Just a bit .

The cool thing about putting an MCS hood on the Cooper would be the possibility of making a really cool ram air intake (assuming there is room under there to do it)

I believe some guys in the UK may have done something like this.

Also, Rogue Engineering in NJ sells a trailer hitch for the MCS - you may want to call them and see if they have a solution for the Cooper.

I think an MCS with the SMG tranny would be a pretty hot seller.

When we were looking at MC at the dealers we checked under the hood and Mike said that putting the S hood on the MC would give us a great air intake. And also that we wouldnt have to route anything because its all right there where the scoop would be. And if they do come out with MCS in auto.....were in business....cant wait to see if that really does happen. Mike likes the extra horses of the S.....but I dont want a standard. So it would be great for us in many ways. Anything else anybody?? Thx to all of you who have been giving me ideas. Appreciate it!!

You can order a DaLan Trailer Hitch for the Mini Cooper from www.hmsmotorsport.com for $209.00 online.
Their shop is about 5 minutes from my house. They're incredibly friendly, and super knowedgable about BMW/MINI tuning.

Good luck.

Welcome Mwenz...

I wouldn't loose too much sleep over the hp difference between the MC and MCS. I've read a lot from MC owners who say their car is just a fun to drive, almost as quick with a few modifications and who are very happy with the CVT. Do a search in this forum for something about "Is the MC faster than the MCS" there was a pretty good thread detailing it.

The MCS is only faster in the higher powerband... someplace a lot of people don't want to drive. And they both handle so well that most people don't need to be in that part of the powerband in the twisties anyway. The CVT puts power to the ground in a very smooth, linear fashion.

What I'm saying is that if you don't care about drag-racing ricers, the MC will be more than enough fun with sufficient zip and more than enough handling to keep the smiles on your faces.

And, you could always go with some mods to get more zip over time if you wanted.

Anyway, keep saving, it will be worth it!

Kev
