"There's a lot more pollutants from the fire than the vehicles would pollute during their lifetime," he said. "There's hundreds of tons of pollutants that were spilled off."

As much as some of the MINI Renegades would LOVE to see SUVs off the street, we are too smart to resort to juvenile arson tactics that would endanger lives. No, this was the job of some stupid ELFs.

Maybe...maybe not. A lifetime of Hummer pollution is probably pretty impressive...

This is definitely "wrong," but <<flinching for potential flaming>> I should would like to put some Hummers out of commission--if only there were a way to do without fire and danger. Perhaps if I could just create a virus for the Hummer ECU that would make a really nasty "Stumble"!

this reminds me of an old children's book called "The Pushcart War." These monster trucks were taking over the highways, so the pushcart vendors started blowing darts at the tires to put them out of commision. They won the war too.

If you go to ELF's site you can see plenty more of it's destructive history.
I hate SUVs, smog, SUVs, urban sprawl, SUVs and other pollutants of this world, but IMO this level of violent "retaliation" is going overboard and doesn't do much good for the cause.

As a long time southland sailer/racer, I agree with you Clo. I certainly don't condone this sort of behavior, I was just trying to poke some fun at the renegades/mightyminz folks

If this ELF place has a concrete existence, how come it's so difficult to nab who's behind this.

I don't understand why groups like this think their tactics will effect change. There are now a few people, that because of the actions of these thugs, who will not collect a paycheck in the near future. If you are angry at the tactics of a corporation, take it out on the CEO, not innocent people who have to pay their bills and feed their kids.

It's the same as the "worm virus people" they want to let bill gates know that he's an idiot for writing code that's full of holes. So what do they do??? they inconvenience the world, not bill gates. He hasn't been hurt at all!!!!

Rant over!

I'm not an SUV lover but what elf did is just wrong! Sure SUVs make lots of pollution but that doesnt give them the right to destroy other peoples property! oooo if they did that to my car I'd beat those hippies up soooo bad!

These ELF tactics are a sure sign that these frustrated idiots are not capable of rational thought and persuasive discourse.

In a free country, I can choose how I spend my hard earned money, even if it is on a gas slurping pig of a SUV. As long as the system says it is legal to buy an SUV, then I have a right to make that choice. The ELF fanatics had better learn that their right to their beliefs ends at my property. If they destroy my property, then they risk much more serious consequences than going to jail.

I really wish more people drove fuel efficient vehicles and that our society used more renewable and sustainable energy resources. If so our air would be much healthier to breath. The way to get change is to lead by example in a rational planned manner. The ELF actions are not going to accomplish anything positive. These extreme actions are hurting the cause of those of us who are trying to change the minds and hearts of our less fuel efficient brothers and sisters. Until we are able to do that, as much as we may dislike their BIG SUV choices, we must physically respect their legal right to make those choices.

If any of you think torching SUVs is ok, then I have a few questions for you. How would you feel if someone torched your MINI? How have some reacted when people dare say something bad about the MINI? How would you feel if you were told you couldn’t do any performance modifications to your car? We need to respect freedom of choice.

That said, I think it is insane to own a 4-wheel drive rig that never sees a serious dirt road. They cost more to buy, they weigh more which hurts performance and fuel economy, they pollute more, and they cost more to maintain. If they are never to be off road then they are a total waste of resources. Educating people on the economics and environmental impacts of buying SUVs will have a better chance of winning them over.

We do need to encourage reasonable choices, but burning someone’s property isn’t the way to go.
