I'm considering adding a new air intake and there seem to be quite a few different offerings, all about the same price, but I think there are differences in design, material and size. Can anyone tell me what would make one better than the other? It seems many people have had good reuslts and the installation is quite simple. Thanks!

PROMINI© Racing Filter Kit ($229)

The Pilo Racing Cold Air Intake ($155)

MINIMANIA/K&N COLD AIR INTAKE SYSTEM KIT ($199.95)

I've used both the Madness/Rouge and the ALTA, and I prefer the fit-n-finish, as well as the sound of the ALTA. The quality of materials, the packaging, and the included instructions are much better with the ALTA.
The installation is more in-depth with the versus most other intakes, due to the removal of the cowl baffle, however the improvement in ram-air at-speed, as well as the excellent sound quality, makes it worth it all the way. I also tend to be a fan of foam filters, so the ALTA get's my two-thumbs up.

Cheers,
Ryan

Can't say about others, but am very happy with the Pilo I installed a couple of weeks ago. Easy install, nicely constructed, great sound and a little kick in the pants.

the pro mini has no heat shield so i wouldn't recommend it. I have the Madness and i am very happy with it. I was going to get the ALTA but they were having some problems with the silicone hose fitting, and i was informed by some that the Madness filter is a better quality.

The ProMini most definetly has a heat shield - you can see it in the picture I've attached.

your right. but it is not very effective. i remembered hearing something about the heat shield. I thought there wasn't one my bad. Here is a quote from Randy himself after doing a search.

It is open at the rear of the heat shield, but still retains the lower part of the airbox that includes the "snorkle", so it is getting air from the stock location as well as the rear cowl area. This open area may have something to do with the lower numbers when compared to the Pipercross or Madness.
thank you for not snapping at me, but rather just correcting me.
