lens upgrade question

Hello all,
I have an Xti with the 18-55mm lens the camera came with I and am not too satisfied with it, so I have been looking and I am interested in this: http://www.usa.canon.com/consumer/co...ModelDetailAct

What is your guy's consensus on this lens?
good upgrade lens? is it worth it?

thank you

What are you not satisfied with with your current setup?

That lens looks like it will be of equal quality and performance but with added zoom (no L or f/stop benifits)

I've been using the 28-135 IS lens for almost 5 years, and the only negative is the relatively small aperature.

The 28-135 IS probably is the best non-L zoom that Canon makes. I use it all the time and am very happy with it.

Compared to other lenses I have used:
  • The 50 f1.8 is cheap, sharp and has better bokeh, but no zoom.
  • The 70-200 f2.8L is way better but costs 3x as much and weighs a million pounds.
  • The 16-34 f2.8L and 17-40L don't impress me much at all.
  • The 75-300 IS is a piece of junk.
As said above, the 28-135 maxes out at f3.5 to 5.6, so you don't get nice shallow-depth-of-field shots with it, and out-of-focus areas aren't as smooth as faster lenses.

It is well built, fairly quick to focus, and the 45-200mm equivalent zoom range is ideal for what I like to shoot.

I'm sorry guys, I totally forgot that i made a thread here.

thank you all for the input. I'm not sure if I'm going to do just yet. And I don't need to buy here because my dad works for canon and we get a little discount from the company store.

Thanks again

It was the first lens I bought and the one I use the most - much more than most of my L lenses.
