How much do you pay for insurance?

How much do you pay for insurance on your Mini?

I'm 22 and considering getting a Cooper S. I'll finally be off my parents' insurance plan, and never having my own plan I'm not sure how much it'll run. How does the price of insurance on a Mini compare to other cars?

I've had one small incident on my insurance record but no tickets or anything major.

Details such as provider, coverage, etc. would be great.

Thanks!

My dh and I are 45, have 3 teen sons driving on our insurance. We live in NC, have had no accidents or tickets in over 20yrs, even my sons. We were quoted $330/6months on the Mini Clubman S with State Farm.

I live in central Georgia and for two cars, my MINI and a 98 Blazer, we pay over $1800.00 every 6 months. Thats full coverage on both cars and $1000.00 deductable. I also have a 81 Corvette with classic car insurance
that is $260.00 a year full coverage valued at $15000.00 and no deductable
and no mileage restrictions. I have a 17 year old Step Son and he is restricted from driving the MINI or Corvette untill he's 25, per both Insurance policy's. I've lived in several States over the years and Georgia has the highest rates I've experienced.

If you're eligible for membership, I always suggest USAA insurance. (Eligibility is for service members or their families.) Dad had it, and when I started out on my own, I went with them, too....

Now I'm *gasp! how did that happen???* 32, married, and both of us are with USAA. We pay about $200/month for two '07s (one MCS, one BMW 335i), one '01 F150 4x4, and one '97 F150. That's not bad for four vehicles, two drivers, and in VA (high rates.) They give a "fleet" discount (probably not applicable to you just starting off, but...) We've both had decent driving records for over 10 years - to include while we were in Germany (SUPER high rates!).

I had an accident in the MCS in April that could have been deemed my fault but USAA didn't raise our costs because of our long-term success. They also give good student discounts -- I think even if you're going for your continuing education (masters, etc.), not just for HS students.

Yeah, I've heard good experiences and rates with USAA, but the only people related to me in the service were my grandparents who've passed away.

USAA indeed, if you can get it.

I was with AAA for years and thought I was doing OK. Now we're with USAA and I see that I was wrong before. It's no mystery we have insane insurance rates here in CA, but I knew I lucked out in marrying my wife when, in 2002, USAA quoted me $80/month for my Porsche 996! (that's not the only reason I lucked out, in case your reading this, dear. But you got my killer health insurance, so we're even!)

6 years later, we now have a 2006 BMW 5 wagon, 2006 Mini and a 2007 Honda Odyssey Touring and we pay about $250/month total, $500 deductible, full coverage, in one of the most expensive zip codes in California. Even with one totaled car (not our fault) and two stolen cars, our rates have not gone up.

Yeah, I've heard good experiences and rates with USAA, but the only people related to me in the service were my grandparents who've passed away.
I'm not sure about qualifications since I married in, but I thought you qualified even if your relatives who served have passed away. I may very well be wrong, but it might be worth a check at least.

You're under 25, so that's a ding. You've got one incident on your record, that's a ding. I'd say expect $600+ every six months for coverage and a $1000 deductible.

If you were able to still stay under your parent's insurance, it might be cheaper...

I'm 25, one not-at-fault accident four years ago, college grad, through State Farm going to be paying 75$/month for the MCS at full coverage w/ 500$ deductible.

One positive note is that the MINI has a lower risk bracket than other cars. So insurance for a MINI versus something like a Camry with everything else equal, the MINI will be cheaper. Go figure the more expensive car gets lower insurance rates. But really, how many MINIs do you see in accidents? How many Camrys? How many MINIs do you see stolen? Camrys?

That's what I was thinking. Previous to the Mini I was considering an Infiniti G35/G37, which I would expect to be substantially higher.

I would think that also has much to do with the sheer number of Camry's vs Coopers on the road, and the fact that the econo-boxes are stolen more frequently.

Mini, Camry, Accord are all on C&Ds 10 safest cars list.

Accords, Camrys, etc top the most-stolen lists because of the interchangeable parts across several model years and also because there are so many of them and thieves can blend in.

Good driving record, 45, live in the city. Have State Farm at $490/6 months with $500 deductible and substantial coverage.

Where you live can really affect your rate. It's based on your zip code. When I lived in the suburbs my rate was $100 less for a 6 month period.

Am paying 690 for 6 months with Statefarm, at 500 deductible.

I've only been in the US for 18 months, but I've had my (uk) license for 12 years, no accidents on file, so I got a good discount for my safety record, and a California Good Driver discount too. Those two discounts total almost 600 bucks.

21 years old here, no accidents or tickets, here's my coverage...

2006 MINI Cooper S (With every package and option except JCW)

Wawanesa Insurance
Bodily Injury and Property Damage: $250,000/$500,000/$100,000 Limits
Uninsured Motorist Coverage: $250,000/$500,000/$100,000 Limits
$500 Colision Deductable
$100 Comp Deductable
$30 a Day rental coverage
$5,000 "No Questions" Medical Coverage
$11,400 Aftermarket Parts Coverage

My 1 year premium was around $1560 in May when I renewed...
You don't have an agent with them, but you can call into a "Rep" to change whatever you want. I actually find it easier to get ahold of someone when I call the 1-800 number than when I was with Mercury with a dedicated agent... .

When I lived in Indiana [Indy] I had a 04MC, my 81 Corvette, and a 88
Lincoln LS [the car from hell]. I had full coverage on all three with $250.00
deductable from AIG. It was less than $600.00 every 6 months. When I moved to Ga. the sh.. hit the fan on insurance rates. I'ed go back to Indy if it didn't snow there.

Well, Jesey City is next to Newark which has the highest car theft rate in the country by a wide margin. I live in mid Jersey and have lower rates even though I have a 17 year old daughter. Don't have my mini yet though so can't quote a rate for you.

I am 21 and just purchased a 2008 MCS.

No tickets, no accidents, and I was on my parents insurance before as a secondary driver. This is my first insurance policy as the primary driver. (I got my car engraved with Sherlock to lower my insurance costs)

I am paying 122$ a month. With 2,000,000$ civil liability coverage, 100$ deductible. I got 7 year replacement cost value insurance through the dealer, and that comes out to about 20$ a month, but its blended in with my monthly payment for my MINI

Engraved? What's that for? Here MINIs are so rare that I am literally going to be the only blue MINI in town. State farm also noted to me that an alarm system doesn't even appear as an option in their system to lower the insurance on the MINI. Reason? The MINI already has an advanced engine immobilizer in addition to the laser cut keys. Gotta love it!
