6/21/08:
10:00 am - Begin arriving at starting location
10:15 am - Leave starting location
12:00 pm - Arrive at Centennial Cone Park for tailgate/picnic lunch
01:00 pm - Leave park and get back to the twisties (optional to finish off the canyon)
02:00 pm - Possible photo op and/or stop at the Wondervu Café (giftshop and sweets)
02:30-03:00 pm - Arrive at final destination
After 03:00 pm - Being close to the mountains there are still a bunch of twisties at hand, so if anyone wants to consider additional roads, feel free. Everyone can decide what’s best for them and head their own ways from here.
Starting point is in Golden near the base of Lookout Mountain; come fully fueled, coffee’d, and ready for a good time. Get onto 6th Ave from North or South of Golden and proceed to the middle. Go West at the light for 19th St, and proceed up the hill. After the third street there’s a long stretch of shoulder, we will line up on the North side of the street (between Smith and 19th says the map).
START map here
I will provide a hard copy of the driving instructions at the meeting location. PM me if you have to have them in advance for some reason, I should be able to accommodate before the 21st. Oh and if you’re one of those people that can’t be without $tarbuck$, the four closest locations can be found HERE.
The most important thing to remember is that we’re having a tailgate/picnic lunch at our midpoint. There are NO FOOD SERVICES anywhere near here, so you need to bring your own food/drink. There are no electric/water services either, but there is a port-a-potty. The stop will be at the North trailhead for Centennial Cone Park; more info on the location can be found through http://openspace.jeffco.us. The brochure that I have in hand says that pets are allowed, but must be leashed and cleaned up after. So if you want to bring your pets, this will be a fine time to do so; they just won’t get to go running around the open space (3,369 acres I’m told). The brochure also has a number listed to report bear and lion sightings, so keep in mind that we’re on their turf. If weather turns bad, I’ve got a backup plan for lunch at a restaurant, but that shouldn’t be a problem.

Oh, and I forgot to mention, but I do have a little portable gas grill. I'm pondering bringing it so if you brought something raw you could use my grill to cook it. If anyone is interested in cooking out burgers or brauts or something then I'll pull it out and make sure it works.
I do have a recommendation though. We'll be driving past Boettcher Mansion on our way up lookout mountain. There are two ways to get to the mansion, one of them involves driving past the meeting spot. I'd recommend your GPS take you to:
900 Colorow Road
Golden, CO 80401
My GPS allows me to allow or ignore certain kinds of roads. If yours does the same you can tell it to avoid highways and it shold route you through Golden (NOT VIA I-70). It's not the best solution but it's A solution. Why don't you give me a call after you input it, we can discuss whether or not it worked and if we need to work on another solution for you (maybe lat/long coordinates?). I'll PM you my cell number in a minute.

There are in fact two rides planned for Saturday. The first is the 'M is for MINI' ride which includes mountain twisties, a picnic and more twisties. This ride starts at 10:00 AM from 19th street in Golden.
The second ride is the SSSS (Summer Solstice Scenic Sunset) ride which is all of 8 miles in length but features sunset viewing and a photo op. This ride meets at 7:00 PM at the Starbucks in Lone Tree.
So check the calendar people, all your questions should be answered there. Oh and be sure to sign-up so we can get an anticipated head count.
