How do it remove my driver side mirror on my 02 non-S?
I bought my MINI used and just noticed the mirror is not lined up well with the gasket and want to remove and re-seat. The gasket sits 1/2" below the mirror on the top, so I'm concerned about moisture, in fact, I wonder if the light line of bubbling paint running down the doors front most edge is the cause?
where you able to resolve your issue?
I too had a similar issue after I bought my '03 used and used a small screwdriver to pry above the rubber seal and move it to the correct spot...
I can relate to you because I also purchased a Cooper, but it had low miles and all options too! I'd like to see some pics! I will have some up soon too.

For the side view mirrors, you release the three torx bolts by maneuvering the mirror (I first did not think they were breakaway) toward the car and you will find the bolts attaching the mirror to the car. You can then lift the entire arm off the door pretty easily.
I did this believe it or not to get access to those bolts that were rusty and wanted to clean them up. You can remove the wire harness for the mirror to free both of your hand - just don't allow the wire harness to fall into the door.
You'll probably want to take the time to clean under the gasket.
If you do not rust starting to form, don't hesitate to take it to the dealer for an inspection, I believe we are still covered under BMW's rust perforation warranty.
And also check the door silla rea of your car under the seal, ust pull up the weather striping. I found rust under there after reading this thread:

They also have a technical bulletin that you can access about it in post #512.
