R50/53 Buying a Mini abroad or somewhere random in the US?
BMW has a program to purchase abroad and import. Mercedes, too. Volvo, I hear, has a great one. My husband and I, however, want a Mini. Does anyone know whether BMW or John Cooper Works or anyone else has established a "buy abroad" program for Minis? Its usually a lot more cost effective than buying them here, particularly since everything in my area is going for over sticker price (Boston area).
The other idea we had was figuring anywhere in the US that Minis aren't selling - certain states come to mind as areas that may not "love the Mini" as much as the small, funky car fans in the northeast. Any suggestions of cities where Minis are sitting on the lots? I travel nationwide for work and could easily arrange to go to my Mini! I know its a stretch....
Thanks for any advice you have.

Try Mini of Charleston in South Carolina. They only have a small "Documentation Fee" and sometimes have cars in stock. I didn't want to wait 10 months so I called down there and picked an MCS up the next day. Great people and fast service!

gkemper, welcome to MCO!
But as for places to buy at MSRP...try several of the Long Island NY dealers. I live in MA (Boston area) and bought from Habberstad at flat MSRP. Very good experience and no hidden costs. Also, MINI of the Hamptons is a MCO sponsor and sells at MSRP. As you probably know, Long Island is a relatively short drive from MA...and you can still go to Peabody for service. They're great for that (sales...I don't know...). PM me if you want more info.
And of course, stay away from Herb Chambers at absolutely all costs. They're criminals. Really.
And of course, check out the MCO dealer rating system for more info on all dealers!

I've been told by MINI of Sterling that BMW/MINI doesn't have overseas delivery YET. The plant in Cowley (it's not actually in Oxford but in a suburb of Oxford) can't accomodate much in the way of visitors yet. Supposedly overseas delivery is in the plans for a few years out though.
