The parts dept won't return my calls! Those guys are so busy! Grrr!

I want to retro-install myself. Thanks.

I payed $300.00 plus $8.00 shipping at Classic Auto Campus. You will need to get your MINI programed after you install the alarm, that should cost about $80.00 - $85.00.

That is correct. The optional alarm was $450. July 5, 2002 build date. Still don't know if it works. Maybe thats a good thing.

As of 2003, the factory alarm installed is $510 (at least here in Colorado).

But Classic Auto is the way to go if you are installing yourself.

i also paid 300 for the kit. super super easy to install. i meanit is realy easy. good directions and every thing is there for you. i just wish you didn't have to go to your dealer to get it working. only a visit and 50 bucks later and it works. again it was really easy and classic is great to deal with. REALLY EASY. ok i think you know now...

I dont see the point of car alarms, esp. on a car like the mini with all its incorporated theft deterents, computerized keys and such. They are more of an annoyance to me than anything, but areas and crime do differ so hmmm..

i live near detroit and i drive there a lot so i wanted at least a blinking light to tell them it is not worth you time. knock on wood i have never been broken into and i used to drive a 74 nova with custom rims down there, but i also never leave anything in sight for them to see to take. but i feel better knowing it is there and it will make anyone that is not a pro think twice before even trying. i use the club too. does it really work? no not really, but again it it something to keep the newbe car thief out.

In addition to protecting the car itself, some of us would like to keep people from removing things FROM our cars (especially those of us who have put a grand or two into their audio systems).

I will be installing the alarm soon, as I'm having my first service shortly and will have them activate it at that time. After activation, I also plan on moving the siren to the INSIDE of the cabin, deep under the dash. I know people ignore car alarms, so I'd rather deafen the thief.

MINI Motoring Accessories, printed 5/2003, lists the Security Alarm as part number 82 11 0 300 295 with a price of $375. Classic BMW Part's price at $300 is 20% off the published price (internet sales only) The description reads "Helps prevent tampering and theft with siren, and flashing hazard lights. Remote control operation."

I got it because the little red blinking light might scare someone away from hurting my baby while she is alone. I wasn't really as concerned with theft as vandalism.
