R50/53 Questions / Possible problems with my MINI
Questions / Possible problems with my MINI
I just bought a used 2002 cooper S and have found a great deal of the information I needed on this site. I still have some questions I haven't been able to find answers to:
Question #1. My car came with ASC. Is there anyway to upgrade to DSC? Is it just software or do you need new hardware as well?
Question #2. Does the rear sun roof open on this model year? I'm almost positive I've seen pics of other peoples minis and the rear sun roof is popped up. Is mine broken or is that only on later models.
Question #3. My owners manual says the following about the '02 . . . .
This doesn't work. I can't open or close them from outside the car with the key. Any ideas?
Question #4. The windows have an auto down feature. Briefly press the switch and the windows go all the way down. The manual says they have an auto up feature as well but it doesn't work . . . .
Any help or suggestions would be greatly appreciated. I tried to not be a total noob and used the search feature but was unable to find the info I was looking for. Maybe I was searching for the wrong things. Thanks in advance.
Very Respectfully,
Clint

"Convenience feature via door lock: You can also operate the power windows and the sliding/tilt sunroof via the door lock.

To close:
Press the switch upwards. The window closes until you release the switch
or when the engine is running:
Briefly press the switch upwards. The window closes automatically. Pressing the switch again stops the operation.

1. NO
2. No .. not until 2007 does the rear sunroof window open..
3.when you lock the car with the key in the door, if you hold it in the lock position, the windows and sunroof will close..
on the other direction, when you unlock the car with the fob.. the first click opens the drivers door.. press and hold.. the rest of the car unlocks and the windows and sunroof will open for as long as you hold the button..
4.Unless you have a car that has the aftermarket card in it.. auto up will not work.. there are no sensors in the car for it.you have to hold the switch for them to close..
good luck

Auto-up, at least for a period of time, was not legal in the US for safety reasons. However, you can buy a piece of hardware that will give you the auto-up feature, and it's a super easy, 15 minute install.
There are some errors in the first-gen owner's manuals that took forever to be fixed/updated. One is the "auto-up" for the windows (was never available on the US-spec cars). Also, the owner's manual says that you can store a different set of vehicle preferences in each key, and that was never true.
Plus, when MINI went with the larger wheel lug bolts in mid-2006 and changed the torque spec from 88 lbf-ft to 103 lbf-ft, the owner's manual for the convertible continued to list the old torque spec (at least for the 2007 model - I don't know about the 2008 manual).
