Was looking at the downtubes today, noticed some scratches. Wanna replace it myself. I see that it is held by two torx screws.... My question is, do I need to remove the glovebox to remove the downtube? It looks like it is in the way?

Do a search for removing the downtubes for pictures. You have two options: Removing part of the shifter console (harder) or removing the knee bolster and one screw from the dash and pulling the dash forward (easier, and what I do).

MINI2 topic is called "Removing Interior Bits"

... did you try asking the guys in the back room? - if you're still at the dealership, go bring up the TIS and enter 51 16 198 ...

the glove box is not in the way, but you will have to take out some other things. look here: http://www.r53w11.com/drivinglights.htm and it tells how to remove it all. i actually didn't remove the shifter ball or unplug the switches because of a small screw i could not undo since i didn't have the right tool, it was a bit tight, but i got it. i have been thinking of just taking them back out on an afternoon and clearcoating them to match the dash. anyone ever do that?
