R50/53 Has anyone ver ordered the no cost optional Cassette Tape st
Just curious....I guess why bother with the old 30+ year compact cassette technology but I wonder if there are any fellow MINI owners that have opted for the Tape radio instead of the CD Boost stereo system. MINI continues to offer the Cassette tape stereo for 2004, so someone, somwhere must be ordering it.
I actually know a fellow parent (and luddite
) who maintains that there's more kids music on tape than anything else and therefore he HAS to have a cassette player in his car. Ok.... (so if he had a MINI, which he doesn't, he might order the cassette radio) But I have to say that my kids have grown up with the CD's ability to play individual songs over and over again instantly, so they hate tapes.

Until just about 10 years ago, Cassette tape decks were very common in cars. The last car I had with a tape deck also had a single disc CD player ('97 Acura 2.5TL). I personally have tossed out all my old tape recordings. I just can't stand the sound quality (I am spoiled by the digital age) but there are a few tapes lying around that I wish I could still play in the MINI not for the sound quality but mostly for nostalgia.
If MINI stills offers the cassette deck stereo option it means somebody is still ordering it here in the USA.
C'mmon people let's get out of the "Closet" and show us your tape deck MINI radio
I expect the sales of Tape deck equipped MINIs to be greater in Europe and elsewhere (In Europe MINI offers Wave, Boost stereo systems).

I actually can't stand tapes and have used CDs ever since that became an option, but I do think that the best of both worlds is what I have on my 2001 van -- a Radio/CD/Tape combination unit. I'm guessing that the only reason why that type of unit isn't more common is that the slight extra cost of the tape unit isn't worth it when so few buyers actually want it or use it.
And also there is no space in the MINI's center console to swallow a radio head unit equipped with both tape deck and single CD player.

I should have! Especially when I was shown how easily a CD changer plugs into the car's system (in trunk behind passenger side "access door". And $300 from what a fellow MCO enthusiast told me. (NOT from the dealer!).
The head unit and MFSW) would have controlled the changer, and you could have both worlds: 1981 and pre 1981.

I have asked about the in-dash CD changer before and was told there is not enough room. I don't know if they understood that I meant the integrated head-unit with CD changer or not (which are surpisingly compact, and, to the best of my knowledge, fit in standard DIN size slots...). I sure would like to see it happen somehow though!
At any rate, we have sold 2 MINIs with tape decks that I'm aware of. It happens, just not often!

We ordered our Cooper with the cassete player in the dash and I added a CD changer in the boot. I like to listen to books on my hour plus daily commute each way and there are more available on tape than disc. With six CD's in the changer and the radio it makes for a lot of listening options.
