My Wife Is Not So Sure About ...

... our MINI anymore. She loved it at first, and she was, in fact, the one who first suggested that I go out and buy it. But now she thinks that I've gone over the top. And how did I do that ... ? By putting two little Union Jacks decals just under the side vents, and a Union Jack flag in the back on the boot cover, and a Euro plate on the front that says, MS MINIVER. Evidently, once I actually starting enjoying somebody other than her, I guess she got jealous. Is this normal, or is it just me? I don't know.

Can't answer your question about whether this is normal or what the issue actually is, but I know my wife would have been really happy if I had only done what you've done to your MINI. She just rolls her eyes everytime I say "I'm thinking about doing...."

Yeah....I'm afraid it's pretty normal to dote on a MINI! Hopefully she'll soon figure out it's nothing serious...MINImania is pretty benign. Besides the car sleeps ouside in the garage, right??

RIGHT????

I sense an idea for a commercial... Want to guess what I'd keep if I had to make a choice?

My husband was in crazy love with his Miata. It was one of the first ones out and the first in our town.
He did all kinds of mods for SCCA racing and going to Thunderhill and other tracks.
My philosophy was that it was his mistress and if that was his worst crime than no harm done. I'm glad he had the opportunity to love something so much as he can no longer drive.
Of course, now he sees and understands my love of Otto, my Clubby, so what goes around comes around.
Loving a MINI or any car is so much better than doing drugs, or cheating. She should be happy that you are happy.
Motor on!

my wife went out and bought her own MINI after looking at me mod mine. I think she just wanted to have her own to drive, since I'm a little greedy with seat time. :D

Tis normal. Over the past year I've learned to speak less of the MINI to my wife, she'd started rolling her eyes an awful lot and say things like obsessed, etc., which I took as compliment.

You can keep both as long as you spend quality time with each. And I've found that buying the wife flowers on the spur of the moment is a good thing.

When my wife says something about the money, time I spend on the Mini I just say: "Guess I could sell it and call my old drinking buddies up." Problem solved.

"My wife said it was her or the fishing boat . . .
I'm going to miss her." -- paraphrased from a bumper sticker.

Better than the alternate punchline: "I won't miss the bit**"

I'm lucky. My wife has MINI fever as bad as I do. Once I got mine she began building her Clubman online. She obsessed over the details as much as I did. She has already named it even though it won't be here until August. I say get her a MINI too!

You just need to show her the "The Official Mad-Modder Club" thread and you'll look completely normal by comparison.

Is it the Mini itself or all the Union Jack stuff you're adding that is actually causing this situation?

Hubby has a 2007 Shelby GT500. It's turned into his first love, and I jokingly tease him that it's on a list above his son and myself at the present time. If he's not driving it around, he's washing or waxing it, vacationing with it at VIR (Virginia International Raceway), adding more mods to it, having it's horsepower tested again, changing out brakes, wanting to change out the supercharger, having the mirrors painted, purchasing new tires, etc., etc. Need I go on? Oh did I mention washing and waxing?

But no, I'm not jealous. Really, honestly. Actually if not for his new love I surely wouldn't have my Mini. You see I was putting just a little too much time in the drivers seat of that GT500 myself. So he mentioned what happen to me wanting a Mini? That night I checked out the web site and the next day the local dealership. I spent a few weeks trying to find one on local lots but couldn't find a combo I liked. I decided to order new. The rest is history.

I sometimes think my husband winces.. or is it his wallet that winces, when I begin with.. Honey dontcha think that "Jackie" would look great with....
Problem solved.. he went and bought his own mini.. now.. I don't have to worry so much about spending so much time on my car.. because he does the same thing.. and in fact the first week he had it, we looked like complete idiots going to the grocery.. he in his mini, me in mine.. for a less then half mile trip no less.. ah but its calmed down a bit.. for the time being.. I would love now to order a chilli red.. We own a hyper blue 06 MCS ( mine ) and a pepper white 08 MC ( his).. I need my own italian job in the driveway

My problem is the girlfriend wants payback for all the times she let me (read: I begged) to drive her 06 MC. But I'm going to want my 08 MCS all to myself... What to do, what to do???

One of the conditions of me getting my MINI is that I wasn't allowed to mod it as my wife absolutely hated my VW that I modded - primarily due to the louder than stock exhaust. It was just a magnaflow so wasn't that loud, but she never knew about the coilovers. So, I said fine and bought a JCW with everything I wanted on it.

The reality is that I just can't mod it overtly, which is fine with me as other than blacking out the chrome and the intense desire to get an aero kit (not sure how I'll slip this by her), I think I'm good.

But I rarely talk about the MINI and even when I do I get the "rolling of the eyes" and the "not the MINI talk again"...

your wife is jealous of a car?? surely not. if she is, then I'd say she has other..er..issues.

This one made me laught out loud! Actually, I've enjoyed all your responses, and I think I've found the answer to my question. Within the MINIverse, my actions are quite normal, and maybe even a little bit understated. Whereas outside of the MINIverse (where my wife lives), probably her actions are quite normal. We now live in two different worlds, and I just need to be careful to make sure our worlds don't collide to often.

On a similar note, I've been thinking of a graphic for my rear window that looks like this ... with a Union Jack under the MINI part.

But then I was thinking, instead of it saying MINI, what if I had it say JUSTA? What do you guys think of that idea? Just wondering.

You might want to consider 50th anniversary graphics to wear during 2009, too!!!
