 a small ray of light in an otherwise dismal day.

ARGHHHHH.... I don't know if I'm more upset about the car or the fact that Jenn is so upset. I've only had one NEW car myself, as this was her's from the start. And it was such a special gift to her that she's wanted one for soooooooooooooo long (since she lived in Germany in HS and saw so many classics)...

OH WELL... I guess we'll fix it and move on.

Anybody with recommendations for a TOP NOTCH body shop in the Philadelphia Suburbs?

I know this is going to sound silly but....
I was rear ended in January and woke up the
next morning with some neck pain and numbness
in my left hand. I was reluctant to go see a doctor
thinking that I'd had neck pain in the past, no big
deal. Now, I have some real problems with my left
hand and am still feeling like I don't want to be one
of those people who complains about neck pain, etc after
a rear ender. Well, after a month or two I went to a doc
and have a blown disc at C5-6. The impact that caused
it was low speed. It sucks. If she has any problems get
her to a doc right away and get it taken care of.
Hopefully, she'll be fine. Good luck.

If this makes you feel any better, we were rear ended this past Christmas Eve. We found a GREAT bodyshop here and Scooter looks brand new...So that is the key - a GREAT bodyshop!!

FYI - we were sitting still when we got hit - and the girl behind us wasn't going but maybe 5 miles an hour - maybe a tad more - and it was almost $3000 in damage - wowaaa!!  Keep us posted...

Chow!

Donna

PS- she should go to the doctor and get checked out.................

2Minis,

Well, she's in a graduate program for biomedical science as she hopes to start med-school next year ... and she works in an orthopedic surgeon's office. So, if there is any question, don't worry, she'll be seen QUICKLY. Hopefully it won't be an issue.

We'll know quick enough since our Karate club is going on a camping/training weekend later today and if she's not feeling herself it will be obvious.

Sorry to hear about your trouble. I hope it is getting taken care of?

Donna/Mike,

Thanks for the support.

Yeah, I haven't seen it yet, but the materials and designs off bumpers being what they are these days, $3k wouldn't surprise me at all.

Hmmm, she hasn't called back yet, hope she's just still waiting for the cops and hasn't gotten fed up and kicked his butt I mean, she was asked to fight on the US Shotokan Karate team this year... but alas, school was more important.

hey, I know this is going to sound crazy, but you've now got an opportunity get your baby re-painted with some good old American durable "I-can-stand-up-to-road-flotsam" paint! Mini paint is "earth friendly" and frankly sucks. It's too soft and chips with every fleck of detritus on the highway.

HEY, wait a minute, that's right, look for the silver-lining.

Perhaps I'll make her (us) feel better by adding some nice white Bonnet/Boot stripes (the wide-double-center stripe look)....

hmmmmmmmmm

In these situations you have got to think that it could have been worse. If she is ok and the other person has admitted it then you are lucky. Just an inconvienience to get it fixed.

Hope she isn't shaken up by the experience.

YUP, ya know, I knew the second I answered the phone, just by her tone in the first word or two. So I asked her if she was ok... and she said "yes" so before I even asked how the car was I said, "don't worry about it, we'll get it fixed" and she calmed down pretty quickly!!!

The cops just left and she just called me back. Real bummer, it didn't even happen on the expressway, she had already gotten off at her exit. She was at a TOTAL, COMPLETE stop in traffic when she noticed this tractor-trailer creeping up on her. Unfortunately she had no where to go and tap.

Good news, not only is she ok, but it really was a low-speed tap. So she thinks it's mostly cosmetic to the rear bumper only. But, we'll let a VERY good body shop decide.

And, she sounds totally like herself (which is very cool/calm in the first place), so I think all will be well.

Oppppss, I forgot to mention the Bonnet/Boot stripe idea to her. That'll probably perk her up even more.

KevM - if it's JUST cosmetic on the bumper, call Eric @ Helix in Philly (1877helix13) I had him replace my front MC bumper with a leftover MCS aero-kit piece from a local dealer. The bonnet damage I had a bodyshop do, but the bumper was easy enough, saved some cash...

Thanks Dan, I might give him a call (I wanted to talk about a pulley eventually anyway)... though saving cash is not a major concern since it's not my dime. It's the insurance company for the lumber company whose truck it was.

gotcha...I forget that I didn't do the insurance thing. Too much snow on my car obscured the damage, and no damage to the car I slid into... good luck though! I know I felt a lot better when my MINI looked "normal" again...

Bummer, bummer, bummer, sorry to hear it. First, make sure your wife is OK. I was in a VW that was rear ended *hard* 30 years ago (no head restraints) and have had neck problems off-and-on ever since. Hopefully, she'll have no after effects. Then get the car fixed, and move on.

Now that your car has been truly 'broken in,' you probably won't be involved in any more accidents. Its alwyas the new cars, and older cars that have just had bodywork and paint jobs, that seem to get hit.

Ya know, new cars are a little like motorcycles...

There are only 2 types of motorcycles, those that HAVE been down and those that WILL BE.

When you get a new car you're all excited, almost scared. You don't want to do anything that might scratch it, etc...

Well, we won't be worrying about a little scratch so much anymore will we?

Jenn's OK... and that's what REALLY matters!

"Hear me love, I don't CARE about the car if you're OK"

Seriously, I'm thinking from her later, more calm descriptions that it was a LOW speed hit (more of a tap with some cosmetic damage)... but we'll find out.

Sorry to hear about your's too. Was it much of a hassle? How did you decide on the body shop?

Some real knucklehead turning across traffic hit me in the Jeep a little more than a year ago. But he tried to fight it claiming I wasn't in the turn lane or that I must have crossed a double-yellow to get there or some crap. So it was a MAJOR pain in the butt. I wound up having MY insurance fix it and take his insurance company to arbitration where I won and got my deposit back. But it took like a YEAR and I was without the Jeep for a month or more...

I'm really not looking forward to DEALING with the fix...

Kev- I am SOOOO sorry to hear about the mishap and glad your wife is OK!! I hate the Schuylkill! People are always on my butt constantly.

I hope that you can get your pretty mini fixed up real quick . I can't offer you any shops out your way, but I've got a great one in NJ- FOR STRIPES and TINTS. They do great work and are all enthusiasts for these cars. I think I got them depressed when I said I wasn't doing the Evil Kenevil (sp?) graphic package on my mini

Thanks for the support Julie... and I'll let you know if we want to hear about the stripe/tint shop.

We showed it to a highly recommended body shop on Friday and the first estimate is Bumer/Liftgate, paint, some emblems... $1800 We'll probably go with this shop as it comes recommended both by Otto's BMW/Mini and from some people I work with who had some BMW's and other vehicles repaired by them.

Also, sounds like the stripe idea is going to die on the vine (at least for now), but we're probably going to go ahead with the tint.

We'll post back once she's fixed!

Kev and Jenn

I had hit and run to my Indi Blue MCS repaired at ORSINI in Haverford. MINI of the Main Line recommended them, and I was VERY pleased with the result. They also repainted my hood, and the paint job was better than the original! Good luck!

Joedude,

Great town Haverford. I spent four of the best years of my life sweating away the hours at school there. Go 'Fords!

Jenn and I are sitting here smilin... thanks for the continued good will.

got a call from the adjuster for the other carrier this morning and, though she still needs to speak with her insured, she seems to think this will go smoothly (I'll hold my breath, but I'm optimistic).

As for needing help stompin' the other driver, well, considering how Jenn performed at our Karate camp this weekend, she certainly wouldn't have needed any help (though thanks for the offer of loaning out your skinny but tuff hubby Tcktgtr). However, I'm VERY proud to say that she was calm, cool, collected and gracious... no stomping, yelling, screaming, bitching, crying or pounding occurred (lucky for the trucker, as he's the one who would have been crying ).

It seems that they were both professional and courteous, so much so the cop didn't even separate them when he was taking the report. She told it... the cop looked at the trucker and said "and you want to tell your side" and he said "it's what she said"

See, we can just all get along. It's nice to hear of someone willing to take responsibility for their own actions for a change. Maybe there's hope for us all, right?

Didn't stop us from tossing more than few back with our buds this weekend, that's for sure.

Meanwhile, we're putting Scoobie-Doo bandaids on her (the car) until she feels better (Snoopy may be cuddly, but Scoobie Rocks!).

K & J

glad she's doing well. I'd like to echo the comments that your wife should go see a doctor.
I got rear ended in my lexus last year by a 4 Runner. Although there was no visible immediate damage, my back was killing my by the end of the day. Better safe than sorry.

EDIT: just read that it was actually a very slow speed collision. glad everyone's OK
