Garmin Nuvi installation question

Hi all,

I just bought a Garmin Nuvi 760 and I spent the last fews days reading a lot of post in here about the installation for the kuda mount but I still have one question.

I'm still hesitating for the location of the GPS. I may be installing it with the upper kuda mount or I may go with the OEM location (on the left, next to the RPM gauge)..

I think I pretty much understand how you guys manage to connect it to the fuse box to get the power, but for both locations, my question is: What did you do for the stereo cable?

Since the garmin 760 has a built-in mp3 player, I may use it to listen to some music while the navigation is ON, so that way the music would stop and I could hear the voice instruction.

So how did you connect it? Why did you choose the upper kuda mount instead of the OEM solution?

thanks!

Keep in mind that the OEM mount won't work with the 760 without some fabrication/customization. The 6xx/7xx/8xx Nuvi is wider than the 350 (or is it the 360?) that comes with the OEM kit, and there's not enough room between the mount and the tachometer to fit the wider Nuvis.

I'm not using the Nuvi's stereo cable so I don't have any practical experience with it. I would guess that you could run the wire under the dash to the USB/Aux interface and plug it in there though.

I used the KUDA because I'm right handed and I like having the GPS unit where it feels naturally in reach. The KUDA mount also puts the GPS unit in a more easily viewed location. I usually have my eyes on the road so having the unit up high and slightly off to the right make it easy to glance at as opposed to the stock option that is down low and to the left.

Personal preference.

I have not done it yet due to time and money. I will be installing the Kuda on the dash in the next month or two. My thought is that I will run the 3.5mm aux cable behind the dash trim [with the power cable] to the center stack aux port. I am not sure right now where I will bring the wire through the center stack, i had considered drilling a hole though the back but it seems as though the foot output for the HVAC is there. I need to look into it more. I us the MP3 player all the time an i am quite happy with the performance of it.

One thing though, buy an aux cable that has the 90 dregree end connectors on it for a cleaner fit.

For now i am using the suction cup on the speedo. Not pretty but a decent alternate attachment point.

Oh I didn't know about that

Yeah that's what I had in mind, it is looking pretty ugly right now!

I was asking because on every pictures I look at on NAM, I never see the stereo cable... Don't tell me that everybody use the little builtin speakin in the garmin?

Beside of that, where do they put the audio cable with the OEM solution?

There is a second option that will mount it about in the same spot from Craven. It is a five in flat steel bar that attaches to the back of the Speedo and can be position as desired. If you are not comfortable removing the speedo housing this may be a better option for some however I don;t think it looks as nice as the Kuda mount.

Anybody know about something we can mount direct on the trim, on the left of the steering wheel?

I originally wanted to mount it on the left of the steering wheel, but ended up going with the Kuda
], sid of the speedo mount jobbie! I ran it behind the windshield vent down along the center column and plugged into the "cigarette" ligher power supply. I have a 3 prong multi input power adapter there for my Garmin, my cell phone, and Ipod. It does get a little cumbersome, but ................. Oh well!
