Talk about a love/hate situation....

Yes folks, I've put my Coop up for sale. I've had it with the rattles, the crappy ECU and the painful lumbar. Not to mention I started a club here in the Portland area and can't get but one other person to help me. So I spend too much time trying to keep things together and it's turned into a part time job. Yuck! NEVER my intention. And despite pleas for assistance, no one wants to step up and help. Frustrating to say the least. The MINI is not my life, but damn if you couldn't fool me right now. And quite honestly, the lack of a drop top over my head was more than I thought I could deal with coming from my Miata. I've since realized that I'm just not totally satisfied in a car unless it's a convertible. Hey, that's my crazy thinking and I have to stay true to myself. And there's other issues at bay I'll not discuss here.

But I will say the negative crap influxing this forum is getting really old, too, especially in Power Mods. And that's adding to it. I don't want to have to deal with flame fests when coming to an enthusiast website. I still post on Miata.net, my past car and forum I visited. I'm not sure I can say the same for MCO after I sell the Coopster.

Maybe I'm being rash and irrational, but after a LONG LONG talk with my partner last night, I decided that this is best for me, all things considered. Just wanted to say an official good-bye to those great people on here I've chatted with over the past year.

I've decided to wash my hands of this car and move on. It was fun, it was a serious pain in the ***. Pretty sure I'm going to get an S2000 and just enjoy the car and avoid all forums and clubs on it.

If you're looking for a tricked out Cooper S in the Oregon area, drop me a line.

R

Funny you mention that Dave. I know what you mean. I too have finally decided to sell my MINI. Just too many problems. I know that I will get flamed by people saying nothing can possibly be wrong with the MINI, but my car just spends more time in the shop then on the road. My list of problems has been...

Broken battery and airbox cover
Speaker rattles
Latch rattles
Sunroof squeak
Bad transmission
Bad wiring harness
Window motor broke
Car pulls to one side despite two wheel balances and two alignments
Bad radio head unit

Basically Im just fed up. I love the car and the way it looks...but there is only so much one can take. I am considering the Nissan Z and will sell the car as soon as I move. The closest dealership is going to be an hour away from me, and thats just too far for this amount of problems. I am WORK at the dealer now and its a pain in the ***...so with that distance I can only imagine. I also can no longer sell these cars in good faith when I am having this many issues with mine. It was fun while it lasted.

Sorry to hear you have had less than a desirable experience with your cars, but ours has been great. No rattles, no broken covers, no windshield issues, no stereo problems, nothing, nada, zilp, zilch. Just 11.8K+ miles of pure motoring plesure.

I am looking forward to my '04 MCS and expect to receive the same high level of service we have gotten from our '02 Cooper CVT.

I guess its better to let go of your "Motoring Advisor" post because the first rule for a successful sale is to truly believe in the product you sell, something that you obviously no longer do.

Just a shameless plug (For Mark)... but if you're thinking about an S2000 Mark Ferguson is selling his.

I've seen it and driven it and if I had the cash I'd buy it myself.

Check it out at:

Really sorry to hear that and see you go,
but thanks all the same for the many great contributions to MCO!!!
I can hear you about the MINI. I love mine but sometimes the many problems can be irritating. I still haven't made up my mind about how long I will keep it. I'm worried about the after warranty period, and at my current rate I'll be there at the end of my 1st year!
All the best to you!
Cheers,
M.

Aw maaaaaan...

Sorry to see ya go, Ryan, but I can understand perfectly why you are doing it. Don't be a stranger around these parts however, stop by and say Hi now and then. I too have been put off by the creeping negativity around these parts and it's been reducing my visits here as well. I can only hope it's due to the summer heat and BMW legal wrangling (but I'd be kidding myself, right?).

My MCS hasn't been trouble free by any means, but I havent been beset by many of the seemingly common problems that most have had (yet). And it has not exploded into a bazillion little pieces, but that may change once I start in on my performance mods. If it does, and it gets to be a major hassle, I'll sell it to someone eager for it and get something else. It might be that new Dodge Ram HD dually Cummins 4WD I was originally going to get to add to my '89 now that I beat it all to hell (seriously!).

Good luck to you, happy times with your partner, and spirited driving in whatever you decide to get.

Cheers!

Phil

Can't say I blame you too much, I love Miatas.
Funny... all your time on this site and some people still think your name is Dave.
Take care.

You know what? DavBret...you have the right idea. This will be my last post for awhile. I can't take some people's crap anymore. This site has gone completely out of control. There are alot of you here that I love so much.....but the bad is outweighing the good. If you guys want to get ahold of me....send PMs, I will continue to check them, but I just won't be posting.

Unless something changes here I have totally had it. I will still continue to drive my MINI and love it as much as I already do, but there are way too many ignorant jerks on here.

Ahhhhhh, people....go if you gotta go, but bailing on MCO and Mark Ferguson right now is not a very "community" thing to do...we need to pull together and then do what WE, as individuals, feel like doing, when all is said and done.

Just my opinion...

Good luck Davbret...

No regrets man. I go through this with every car I get. That's why I lease them. I personaaly love the S2000. And I do love my MCS, no problems at all (8500 miles). However if you do get obssesed with something your going to eventually lose interest in it, that's just the way the world is. Variety is the spice of life. As soon as my lease is up I am totally getting a WRX STi, but like I said "VIVA VARIETY"!!

Ryan,

Sorry to hear you are getting rid of your Mini. Thanks for the help installing my pully and all of the advice. Does this mean that the PDX Mini club is no longer alive? If I hear of anyone looking for a Mini I'll send them your way.

see ya,
Dan

Sorry to see you leave Davbret. You were always very helpful to me when I was going through the waiting period jitters and trying to figure out the mod situation.

Best of luck with your future purchase. I have my 99 Miata up for sale as we speak and I've heard the strong opinions against that on here (and I appreciate them!) but these are the decisions we make. I hope I can make the sans drop top life a bit easier. The Miata has been getting a bit cramped for me over the past few years. My plan is to make it long enough to pick up a nice used Z3 or TT.

I must admit as my Mini angles for a seat on the transport truck to my dealer that I read your decision with some degree of trepidation.

Continue looking on the bright side. Portland is pretty far Mt. Ranier.
