R50/53 Boy, am I STUPID!
Why, oh why did I sign onto or even start reading MCO? This was really quite stupid on my part. I’m in no position to be buying a car and now I am completely obsessed with getting a MCS. I really, really liked them before, but now it’s escalated.
What I’ve learned since joining MCO…
1. I know where to buy an aftermarket CD changer/install kit to save some money, not to mention all the other goodies I can get.
2. I know some of the inherent problems some new owners have been experiencing (windshields cracking, engine stumbling…). Always good to be forewarned.
3. I know that Princeton Mini may be where I buy a car, but I probably won’t be giving their service department much business.
4. I know that there are a lot of friendly, helpful people here who have welcomed me even though I don’t even own a Mini or have one on order.
5. I know that there are plenty of people organizing really cool group drives on the weekends.
6. But worst of all, I KNOW I CAN”T BUY ANYTHING YET UNTIL MY STUPID VW IS GONE!!!
I apologize for the rant. Just had to vent. I am sooo depressed.

I was pretty depressed (not really depressed, just kinda sad) when my parents said they would get me one... if I put up some money, fine. Soon enough the time comes, it's july, ready to go... oh we gotta sell the boat first. Darn! They put it up on e-bay and I thought it would never sell. 1 week later this european guy that works for an export company makes a dealwith my dad and electronically puts the cash in his bank account a week later. Last thursday we ordered my MCS and it should be here in october! Now I get an 04.
I would suggest going the e-bay rout, or doing a for sale in the window as it has worked for my parents before, autotrader is good too.
Whichever way you choose to sell you **** mobile good luck and I hope it goes fast. At least you'll get an 04, unless it takes you another year.
Good luck!

Welcome to MCO Jerseygirl
New Brunswick here. Some more MINI bait.......
I'd be happy to talk to you about the dealers in the area, take you for a ride in HARMINI, and invite you to come out and play with some local MINIs (yes, even in your VW). We're getting together Aug 24th for a farewell party for one of our NY members who is moving to Fla. (see NY forum). You are welcome to come along.
Robyn,
Somehow this thread reminds me of a bunch of junkies talking about their latest "fix". The parallel is real. First you gotta get your MC/MCS, Sell ANYTHING to get one. Then you'll have to start modding your car. (This is where the REAL FUN starts, ask any modder). Pretty soon, It will be getting to know fellow MCOers live. We have Pulley parties where a number of us and a Guru like Randy or Eric do collective modding. Then come the events, "tail of the dragon", trans-continental road trips, etc.
Girl, unless you want to be drawn into this dark world, my advise is to get out now while you're still able.

As we used to say, "You've got a Jones" for the Minis. You won't rest until you're sleeping with that car under your pillow at night. I've had my MCS for nearly a year and I still flip on the garage lights and give it a look just before I turn in each night.

Hey thanks, but I'd feel pretty stupid showing up in a non-Mini for a group drive. A friend of mine sent me pictures of a drive he went on with his new Mini and there was some poor schlub there with a Saturn. Looked pretty silly in with all the Minis. No offence if that was anyone here. I'm guessing that person has one on order so he/she is one up on me.
I'm meeting this friend on Thursday to see his new MCS and go for a little drive at lunch time. Probably another really stupid idea.

You've been seduced by the dark side. The more you resist, the more we will tighten our grip. Save yourself some grief, give in, place the order. By the time you get it, the VW will be history. Once you get the car you'll be saying, "I should have done this a long time ago, in a galaxie far, far away.

Click here for the CWFSC and scroll down untill you see Deli and look at his sig, see if it's his saturn you saw.
Get rid of that old '93 VW. By the way, how much are you expecting to get for it? have you research its current market value?
Check out Edmunds' TMV (True Market Value) calculator at http://www.edmunds.com

Now Jerseygirl, in this situation you must be strong and patient! Focus. Take deep breaths. If you have a plan, that's good...just work the plan. An MCS is indeed a worthy goal. I'll just say that as strong as your love of this car might be now, NOTHING BEATS MOTORING IN ONE EVERY DAY!!!!! Consider this but one of the many tests and trials you must overcome on your journey: first, arranging your finances......then, selecting a color (oh, the agony!).....selecting options.....placing your order....second-guessing all your color and option choices ( w/ sleepless nights)....waiting.....finally getting a production #.....waiting.....getting on a ship......hearing (on MCO) about the fate of the Tricolor....worrying about weather conditions at sea........on and on the list goes. But, again...its so worth it! The cars are AWESOME!!!! (...and I have NO mods!!!!....well, except my brake lights and shorty antenna.
) And Jerseygirl...you are not stupid...you, my dear, are a MINIac!!!!!

Hard to tell. The Saturn I saw appeared to be a lighter color blue.

Oh yeah, I've already researched it on kbb.com, nada.com, as well as edmunds.com
I am nothing, if not prepared to sell this car. Unfortunately, it's waiting for a new thermostat and coolant before I can do anything. The part just came yesterday so it shouldn't be long before it's back on the road now.
My ONLY problem here is that I NEED the VW or other FWD car for the winter. My M3 is completely USELESS in the snow. I either have to keep the Passat until I'm sure there won't be any snow until the Mini comes. Or I have to pray for a small miracle that I could sell the Passat quickly and go snag the IB/W MCS that has been taunting me in Princeton Mini. It is EXACTLY what I "built" when I was messing around on the Miniusa site.

EASY THERE Robyn...
If you ARE talking about Deli... that "poor schlub" as you put it has a new MCS which is built and on the ship or at the port or something, so he'll be driving it soon. And for the record he had a very nice display on the back window explaining what car he had on order. As a matter of fact, he and his son were so enthusiastic, they won a prize at the Covered Bridge Tour for best spirit....
Anyway ...

Used car market is VERY soft right now, so check out the papers and autotrader to see what dealers and private individuals are REALLY selling cars for as the KBB and Nada numbers are typically crap.

Hmmm, REALLY? MY buddy has never had a lick of trouble. Do the M3's not have a locking rear diff??? Are you running a decent set of snows on it for the winter??? That can make a BIG diff.
Chin up kid!

>>Jerseygirl,
>> #7 on your list should say " I just made more friends at one time than the guy who won the Lottery"
This is so true. Good point.
I belong to forums for both my Passat and my M3. The Passat guys (especially when dealing with the older ones like I have) tend to be really, really ricey. They are helpful when there's a problem, but there's a lot of rice in between so I haven't really made any attempt to get too friendly. The M3 guys are also very helpful, but they are in a financial league far above me and seem to spend all kinds of $$$ doing performance mods to an already expensive car. I can't and don't want to keep up with all that.
What I've found here seems to be a group of people who really love their cars (maybe a bit too much, which is fine with me), enjoy driving them, and enjoy sharing that enjoyment with other owners and the rest of us dreamers. I guess there is some modding going on, but it doesn't seem to be the overriding theme here. Now if only I actually had a Mini, I'd fit right in here.
Aaaaggghhh!!!!!

I don't know who I'm talking about. I'm just thinking it wouldn't be much fun to go to a get together when everyone else has a Mini except you. In my case, it would make the wait even worse (out of sight, out of mind). But to each their own. If he enjoyed it, that's great.

I never bothered to get a set of snows for the M as I've always had a "winter" car. I have heard tires can make a big improvement on the M3 but I learned to drive on FWD so I'm more comfortable with that when the snow flies anyway.

Robyn,
I do KNOW what you mean about how it would be less fun or make the wait harder. But on the other hand, what a great opportunity to check out a bunch of other Minis and figure out exactly what you like and what you'd want. And, besides, sometimes it's nice to get a fix even if it is not your own.
As for the M in the snow. The single greatest improvement you can make to a vehicle for winter is the use of winter tires. I know more than a couple of people who make it through PA, NY and CT winters with rear wheel drive cars or trucks, but with a. winter tires and many b. a locking differential.
Remembe that a FWD car may have a little more weight over the drive wheels, but if the differential is open, you still only have one wheel of traction. At least a rear wheel with a locker is going to give you true 2 wheel drive (which in theory is as good as a 4wd with front and rear open diffs)...
...my one buddy who drives his 95 M3 YEAR ROUND swears by Blizzaks and Hakkapalitas (sp?). I've seen him park his car on an icy hill and pull away from a dead stop without slippage. It can be pretty amazing.
Well, good luck with the jonesin, now GET THAT VW SOLD!
