What do you all think?

Does a dealer need more than one business day to order a car?

I placed my deposit on the car over the phone late in the day on Friday.

I checked with my dealer at end of business today, Monday, and the car has not been ordered yet.

Is there more to ordering a car than I can think of?

With a delivery date of December/January, every day seems to count to my impulsive self!

Did you ask the dealer how long it would take for them to enter the order?

If the dealer is estimating your delivery in December/January, then they CANNOT order the car yet. They do not have configurable production slots that far in advance. If they are estimating Dec./Jan. then they most likely are in a wait-list situation. In other words, they have more orders than they have production slots and they will fill orders as production slots are opened up to them by MINI.

I don't know if that helps, but I hope it answers your question.

I put my deposit down with MINI of Murray (here in Utah) on July 14th, the order for my September build Cooper S was submitted on August 12th. I received an email with a production number. So, in my case, about one month. I believe that if you have a December build, the order will be placed in November.

Reid.

First of all we need more information. Where are you ordering from ? What model? Some dealerships here in CA have 12 month plus waiting lists for the " mini S " @ MSRP. Best thing to do if you can't wait is to start calling around to other dealerships to find out what the wait is.

Each month the dealers are given an allocation of MINIs and MCSs that they can order. Perhaps 30 MINIs and 15 MCSs one month and 26 - 12 the next. They never know exactly the number. So as people place deposits, they are put on a list and as they get the allocations the dealer works from the list. So if a dealer knows they are allocated 10-12 MCSs each month and they already have 28 people on a list, they can estimate how long it will take the 29th person to get their car. It's all an estimate. I know a fellow who was called and told they were given a large allocation and he got to order a month before he expected to - lucky devil !

I am on a list too. I paid my deposit back in July. He told me I would for sure miss the August order because there were enough people ahead of me on the list to more than fill those allocation orders. He said I would make it for their Sept order allocation. I'll get delivery "by the end of November". He said he will be calling me and confirming exactly what I want on the car. Then he'd call me back and give me my production number so I can track it in the Owners Lounge.

As I understand it, a Sept order to MINI is built in Oct and delivered in Nov. Time frames can change because of the cargo ship schedules.

But that's it - roughly!

I ordered my MCS from Checkered Flag Mini in Virginia Beach, VA on June 14th and took delivery August 7th.

They DO NOT take advanced orders... first come, first served!

F15EWeapon, you lucky punk!!!!
I hate you.
My MC order was placed on June 15th at Northwest MINI, and they told me it would be about 4-6 months! Still no production date yet.
I can hardly sleep at night.

So far I think I'm doing alright, I ordered my MC on Aug. 11 and have a build date of Sept. 19, so I guess I can reasonably expect delivery in October sometime. Just as long as it's before the snow starts falling....
