Get a head...

and put it on. Best money you can spend for power (post pulley).

OR Get some wheels and good tires. Save the extra for a head.

I know you asked how to spend $3K on a MINI, but I'd really invest it right now if I could. Many stocks have dropped. Or, if for those that prefer something that provides a sure thing, then there are IRAs, bonds, and (sorry, just drew a blank). It is also possible to buy real estate with $3K in some locations.

Last time I checked this was a mini forum not a forum for advice on investment strategies and fiscal management!

So getting back to your original question.

A decent head will cost more than $3,000 AUD by the time you get it over here and installed.
So if you want to spend the money now get
1. Pulley
2. headers
3. cam shaft
4. wheels/tyres
5. Sprint booster
Should have some spare change left over.

You should be able to pick up some real estate bargains in Malawi, Somalia and Comoros, you might even get a waterfront!

Well, D-Man,
Thank goodness you'll be at the ready to inform those that post threads about loans, leases, lease options, cost benefit to sell vs. keep, cost benefit to order feature vs. not ordering feature, etc., that the forum is not for advice about fiscal management.

While you're delighted with your retort that $3K can buy property in Malawi, Somalia and Comoros, people possessing greater acumen and composure will continue to buy desireable residential propery in MI, OH, IL, TN, etc. for <$3K (hint: www.realestate.com). Oops! I did it again.

Considering Freespirit is an Aussie I don't think he would be wise investing in America at the moment particularly with the ongoing economic problem related to the sub prime mortgage collapse and the subsequent downward pressure placed on economic growth...or we could just talk about modding minis!

As for the totally desirable residential propertes you mention in the USA does that include the trailer/caravan also?

I also see you didn't have Compton listed, would you need more than 3K to buy there?

Thanks for the info

Freespirit,

Just to continue the theme of replies that are kinda mis-aligned with your original inquiry, here's mine.

If I had that cash, I'd make two piles:

1. the car pile - which I'd spend judiciously, and with respect to the following priorities:

1. wheels/tires
2. chassis (rear bars help the understeer, no question)
3. drive train (but conservatively, not at risk to reliability)

2. the driver pile - which I'd use to ask the following question... What kind of drivers school experience could you get for 1k? I'd bet the answer is that there are a variety of offerings.

The reason for splitting the investment this way is that raising your game as a driver will pay off immediately, for the rest of your life, and across all vehicles you own now or may acquire. Did I mention that it's delightful, a great challange, and above all relatively safe?

by the way - ever done the Great Ocean Road? Southwest of Melbourne? South of Geelong? Down towards Pt. Campbell?

Cheers,

Charlie

Well, the first question is -- and should always be -- what do you want to do with the car?

Track it, autoX, better street performance . . . .

I would do the 15+2, CAI if you don't have, full exhaust (catback & header).

Power Option
15% Alta - $100usd
2% Alta - $165usd
Alta CAI - $270usd
Full RMW exhaust ( header, cat, catback) $2200usd
Total $2735usd

Power and Handling
Alta Pullies
PSS9's

17% Pulley $ 125 + install $ 150
380 cc Injectors $300 + install $ 100
Headers $ 700 + install $150
ECU Tune $ 450
Rear Sway Bar $ 190 + install $ 75
Light Wheels $ 600
Perf Tires $ 440

It is over $3200 but you may save on installation cost if you can do the sway bar and injectors yourself.

I think you'd be surprised how affordable it really is. for bolt ons, stick with the tried and true pulley, then do some suspension stuff. That's where performance gains are really to be had. The bolt on world of parts is a pretty high $/hp arena....

1. Write check for $3,000.00
2. Put in envelope.
3. Put in mailbox addressed to my house.

What?

You'll never hit that goal without a head...
