R50/53 mileage question - new member 02 MCS
mileage question - new member 02 MCS
Hey now - have an electric blue MCS from 2002 and I love this car. Issues? Had 'em, don't really care - coolant bottle, new clutch, stumble and other software issues, blah blah blah - no big whoop compared to the whoopee. Fairly stock car except for a Madness intake, and I had the dist/wires/plugs upgrade recently. Replaced the runflats with P0s. 37k miles.
But this mileage thing is weird. I get about 200 miles per tank in city driving, portland oregon.
Based on the fuel gauge hash marks, I get 100 miles out of the first quarter , 50-60 miles out of the second, 25 miles out of the third quarter, and I get fuel warning and fill up at 210 - 225, regularly coming out at about 20-21 mpg. This is about 20% lower than advertised!
Is anybody else getting low mileage? Why is the fuel gauge so non-linear? I know we get crappy gas here for air regs but I also know that happens across the country. Can I drain the tank and get some crud/moisture out to improve the fuel situation?
any ideas or feedback would be great!
cheers and here's to whoopee!
